Creation Adorer after looking at Brompton for well over 10 years, I finally bought one. I should have bought one years ago. It’s saving me time (waiting for busses, underground, searching for parking places, traffic jams etc) it’s saving me money (bus fares, parking taxes, fines) and it’s fun and healthy. It feels liberating! And when you don’t want to cycle, you can take a bus, train, put it in the boot of a car etc etc. But I did just what you proposed, I bought a demo model. Or is 4 years old and cost me as much as a brand new basic model, but I got a titanium with everything I wanted, the M6R-X, in racing green. It really was brand new, not a scratch or a nick, everything really shiny and new! Oh and Bikes+Life, thanks for the superb videos! It helped me a lot deciding to buy one!

Same, I have a Tern that's 1/4 the price but nowhere near as compact. Hard to find a Brommie on sale, even secondhand they hold their price really well, but from everything I've heard you get what you pay for.

That sounds like an amazing trip Jeffrey! Will you be camping or staying hotels or both? How many miles per day? Very cool idea... I am jealous! -Peter

Hey Peter, the ride will include both camping and hotels. Although, I do prefer hotels more than camping. I should be averaging about 60 miles a day. So, the pace is not fast. I like to slow down, this is not a race against time. Just a leisurely ride across America, through some of the most beautiful places in the states. The ride will be going through Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California. :)

Thank you greatly Peter! Looking forward for warmer weather here in Toronto to enjoy my B. I kind of roll my Brompton more than I want to as I find my cheaper Folding Basket choice begs to stay connected than carried. I wish I had put a bit more $$$ for a luggage option much more carry friendly as I find carrying more practical. Cheers! Ciro Di Rosa
@Bikesandlife8 жыл бұрын
Ciro Di Rosa cool. What you can do is buy a generic luggage shoulder strap from a luggage store. Pick one with big clips at the ends. Then you can clip that right to the aluminum tubing inside the basket. That will allow you to carry it on your shoulder conveniently. Hope that helps and have fun! I'm in San Francisco right now. Flew in with my Brompton as a carry on. So great. -Peter

The Brompton bike is one that I have had a number of times. An excellent commuter and more. I know it has achieved an iconic status with its size and shape but I do feel there is a market for a marginally bigger Brompton, made with the same features but bigger wheels. I hope, at some point Brompton makes that move... Another nice, crisp video!
@Bikesandlife8 жыл бұрын
Funny enough that's actually an idea they'd been playing with years ago. Instead they decided to keep their focus right on one frame sand tune it to perfection. Would be cool to see a large wheel Brompton though. Thanks for the interesting comment! -Peter
@subspaceanomaly5 жыл бұрын
now that their patent has expired it would be pretty easy to make one/have one made. Just pick your wheel size (I guess the slightly oversized 20" ones would be a good choice) and just measure an original brompton and just scale everything up 15-20%. I wouldn't be surprised if it was possible to keep the weight basically the same. Having said that there are a lot of brompton style folders being made in asia now so maybe one of those would fit the bill.

That's a common first ride impression - especially for folks used to full size wheel bikes. I'm considering a folding bike I think I'd love the compact fold of the Brompton - and the charm! However, I can get a Tern Verge P9 for about 60% of the price, which looks like great value. great video, Peter. Glad to see again. I owned one Brompton after watching all your video before (Dec 2015). My Brompton S3E white black. In 4 months, I have ridden almost 500km here in Malaysia (glad I manage to do that with the Brompton) Actually, I have a few question 1) what is your recommendation for me to upgrade my bike, in the way to reduce the weight of the bike as well as to increase the speed of the bike. Well, I hope I can get your personal advice since you are the top three BWC USA September last year (congratulation!!). What you have done for your bike to get that fast!! 2) Can I add mudguard in my E version Brompton bike? Thank you Peter!
@Bikesandlife8 жыл бұрын
+syafiq syafiq Very cool that you have the S3E - that must be a beautiful Brompton! To reduce weight I would look first at a lightweight seatpost, that's the biggest weight savings. Also Kojak tires are very light - the the folding ones if you can. My own Brompton has too many modifications to list! You can add mudguards to your Brompton, check with your local dealer and remember the fenders now come in black, white, and silver! Have fun! -Peter

Absolutely, you can ride the bike on gravel and dirt but it gets more bumpy due to the small wheels. The price is about $1500 - $2500 depending on the set up. -Peter
