Urs Recher and Karl Taylor are back again to show you crucial tips and tricks that professional product photographers use daily. To photograph the headphones in this video, Urs and Karl used three broncolor Siros 800S.
Urs and Karl demonstrate how the halo lighting effect around the product brings out textures and helps to define edges of the headphones. In addition, they also walk through various simple lighting modifiers and shapers, such as a honeycomb grid, reflectors, and a small softbox, that can achieve a high-end result. The slightest changes and movements of your studio lights can impact your final images immensely. In many cases, you can create stunning outcomes by incorporating simple tools to your setups such as flags, mirrors, and basic light shapers.

There a professionals, there are very good professionals, there are masters, masters better than masters and there is Karl Taylor above them all. The video is so well done. Good questions, nice step by step tutorial, easy to follow and understand and you get to see how everything affects the result. It can‘t get better.

Thank you for your kind words James but I would like to make clear that this shot was from Urs who I also consider a lighting master! I did create a different type of headphone shot that included some very neat tricks, if you haven't seen it you can find it here: www.karltayloreducation.com/class/high-end-headphones-product-shoot/

If you don't have 800J heads like these, just darken your studio and trigger your 400J heads twice during one exposure.

Can you share the settings for each light?
@garygalt4146
@garygalt4146 5 жыл бұрын
I’m sure they normally do answer questions but a good start would be 2 to 1 or 4 to 1 from the exposure of your main light. For your shot with your equipment . But if you are desperate for numbers get a magnifying glass and read the numbers in the top left of the screen capture one Lightroom or bridge. Show you. Good luck copying and learning this style. You will get great satisfaction on your final images when you start selling your work. Or just your studio likes your high standard of work. I think Karl is a excellent teacher of high end studio photography. I wish this you tube had been available when I started in the 80s instead of now when I’m stuck in a bed so much and can only watch instead of working. Sorry for my frustration coming out. Good luck in your photography

If continuous lighting is being used, what is the flash in the room? Can someone please explain that to me. Thank you. :)
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio 5 жыл бұрын
It's not continuous lighting, those are the modelling lights that you can see on, all studio flashes have them so you can see what you are doing and what the light will look like, the flash tube surrounds the modelling light and fires when you press the shutter.

This makes me want to photograph my limited-edition Audio-Technica headphones, which are cobalt blue and black in color. They should make a nice image. 💙 I used to own a pair of "professional" Sony headphones, which looked rugged at first glance, but they literally fell apart after very little use, one ear cup snapping off where it was hinged. After that, I'll never buy Sony headphones again.

That's a shame that they don't know how to use a C-stand properly...😅 The back light can easily fall like this, it's better to use a spigot and the extended arm the other way around!
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Clement, in over 25 years of studio product photography - karltaylor.com/objects - I know the most important thing with a C-stand is that what is on it doesn't fall over, that's all that matters.
@clementhalborn7530
@clementhalborn7530 2 жыл бұрын
@@VisualEducationStudio I’ve seen many new photographers and assistants who doesn’t know how to properly use a C-Stand simply because nobody taught them. I don’t have as many experience as you but I’ve seen many broken flash lights due to C-Stand ignorance. Now, every assistants I train for my studio need to understand the basic C-stand rules for safety, and because I care about my Broncolor expensive equipment. I’m pretty sure you’ll agree with me and I know for sure that you know perfectly how to use a C-Stand. My comment was pure provocation 😉 Here is a video that inspired my way to teach safety protocols: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWPOlauGosikr7c
