Bronny James Made A HUGE MISTAKE Entering The NBA Draft according to Gilbert Arenas as He & The Gil's Arena Crew react to the announcement that Bronny is staying in the NBA Draft and discuss if the decision was the right call for LeBron James' son as he will skip another year of development for the chance to play against or with his dad on the Los Angeles Lakers.
Gil’s Arena premieres every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 11:30am PT / 2:30pm ET.

Because Gil's right. Bronny is striking while the iron is hot. It's all but confirmed that he will be drafted and if that's the case why go back to college. He has all the excuses for why he didn't play much or that well this year, yet teams are showing interest. If he goes back, all he does is risk being drafted at all. Teams draft young guys based on potential all the time, so let him get his needed reps on someone's bench.

@michaelperez3720 maybe, but anyone else in his shoes would do the same. Everyone is mad at his fad's influence but would do it in a heartbeat for their own. Teams draft inexperienced 18 and 19yo all the time. Some make it, others don't, and some get sent to the G League. Once you get past the lottery picks, everyone who gets drafted is mostly drafted based on potential and not their current state.

@jordanbanks6655 I don't know if he's smart, but I feel like he Bronny has the ultimate opportunity to become something of his own and not his father's shadow, Like Kobe did, LIKE Steph did, LIKE GP2 did. BUT He's gotta be focused. And he can't be playing video games and hanging out with his boys at the house, he's gotta be in the lab grinding and working on his game. He's gotta be working on his handles more. Gotta be working on his shooting more. Gotta be working on his on-court IQ more. He's got the support of his parents and his father is one of the highest IQs in the game currently, so we will see how much he soaks up knowledge-wise from whoever coaches him. I'd like to see him being molded into either a Russell Westbrook-type player, OR be a purely PG type where he's just like Lamelo and is looking to drive, looking to kick out to the wings or corner for 3s.

Kenyon is 100% correct about people not understanding how hard the NBA is. The last guy on the bench might not seem good to fans but in reality they’re very talented and will beat any regular person. Alot of guys we’re literally the best players in their state and the country and averaged 30 points a game and some were stars in college, but when they got to the NBA they were just the average player against other nba players. Pat Beverly was one of the best in the country when he was in high school and was a scorer and averaged 30 points, but we see him in nba and doesn’t score much an was literally turned into strictly a defensive player because of how much more talent he is up against now.

while I fully agree with you a lot of it has to also do with style. Certain players actually PLAY better in the nba than they did even in high school or college, but it also has a lot to do with a players style and ability to adapt and understand the game. For example patrick beverly actually has a slow release and doesnt actually shoot off the dribble that well. He cant create his own shot and was never an exceptional passer. Compare that to nash who was a phenomenal shooter and passer so if anything he excelled more in the NBA where there is spacing and more pick and roll players which allow him to utilize his talents more than in other levels he played. That being said, there is always a learning curve, but this notion that the nba is hardest while true a lot of it is also individual based depending on your style, iq. Guys who can play uptempo well, can create their own shot and know how to space generally play better in the league. Other examples of busts like adam morrison or jimmer fredette also didnt fare well. Neither could pass or dribble very well. They were mostly just great shooters but also didnt adapt well to the pace of the league and the nba 3 pt range. College threes are shorter.

Bronny will get the best trainer and by this I mean, LeBron knows the top of the top most exclusive trainers waiting for Bronny to be in the NBA to train him full time ( and might even move to where he is as a all paid favor for Bron. Players like Arenas, CP, Klutch players his idol Westbrook or Kyrie and players like Garland, Mitchell, and current players who know James personally knows, will prioritize his potential. But if that didn’t even translate at the college level it would be foolish to think he would be anything besides a bench player/ g leaguer in this league. He realistically should have went back to school proved everybody wrong and get drafted high. Rn his career projection is David Stockton or Scottie pippen jr. Which means G league for most of his career and probably out of the league in 5-7 years. Sad stuff.

If the team that drafts bronny is trash, the fans won't show out and if bronny plays trash too, then the hype will be dead and again no money. Now a team just wasted their long term goal for a 1-2 year gig. When LeBron retires, Bronny will either be benched or just hang around the league trying to get a contract. @@KevonDaDon Bronny's got his dads personality and I feel is going to want to be all buddy-buddy with these other dudes to soak up all the knowledge they have aquired over the years. That's what I would do. Here's thing with Bronny, he's got exceptionally good on-court IQ for passing and seeing passing lanes. That comes naturally, but in time, if trained by the right coaches and teammates, he could become something of a force just for his passing and IQ alone. You don't have to be the fastest, most athletic, or strongest, like Lebron was, because as long as he gets the experience and the team around him and to help him get better, that's what will happen. You can't also say that him having a cardiac arrest and dying probably scares him a bit to even try to go 100%. But you have to go 1000% to even become a starter in the NBA let alone a star. Jokic and Luka always had that dawg in them, they always had that technique in them to be great players, but as they got more and more experience and more work in the gym, they've become the faces of the NBA for a reason. Bronny really has a great opportunity to be his own player. Right now I see him as having the potential as a prime Rajon Rondo.

Difference is D-Wade's son is competitive with his dad and NOT at all with himself or his own career. Maybe cause they know who their parents are and already feel that pressure. Unlike guys like Steph and Seth who's dad was a good shooter and hooper, but who was not even close to the stars and were more or less journeymen who played. Steph has risen so far above that level of who is dad was that I didn't even know his dad played pro ball because his son changed the game, and I bet he'd be more than happy that this happened to his son. IF Bronny was to lead the league in, say, assists per game, in say like the next 4-5 years, and was seriously in the lab working hard, we'd see that hard work year after year.

Sometimes I need a Advil after listening to basketball players talk. “I then when you go…………..(pause hand movement head shake) “and if he go this it’s going to” (nod shoulder shrug confusing laugh)

If you remove James Jr from the back of his jersey, Bronny is a DII basketball player... They're just afraid to say it. He's a 6'2" SG that needs work on his handles... They did right by not having McCants on the show today
