He was, indeed, a fine actor. I think the first movie In which I saw him was the original “The Magnificent Seven”, starring Yul Brynner, Steve MacQueen, and a number of actors who went on to much greater fame. Oh, and did you know, that film was based on a Japanese film called “The Seven Samurai”. I saw it, and was surprised how alike the two were. Of course, the settings were different, one taking place in feudal Japan, the other in the American west. And even though I couldn’t understand the dialogue in “…Samurai”, the plots were virtually identical.

They wwre popular because it struck a nerve with people especially in New York where crime was out of control and the city was a shithole. Bernard Goetz had to shoot those muggers and was received as a hero. As he deserved to be. Bronson gave people a fantasies that someone would go out and clean out thr garbage and give crimibals a .356 magnum justice.

At 2:33 Charles Bronson originally did not want Jan Michael Vincent in the movie "The Mechanic" with him because he thought Jan was TOO PRETTY LOOKING. But they BOTH did a great job in that movie I thought. Plus love scene at 4:10 ! LOL. Thanks for the upload.

I remember Statham saying he wanted to do Bronson type movies but they just lack the feel, character and style of those movies. Charles Bronson didn’t try and be a star on screen, he just was. I like Stratham but his on screen persona and the way most of his movies are is very manufactured feeling. The 70’s and 80’s greats were a lot more naturalistic. Statham’s Mechanic, a Bronson remake, is a classic example of missing what made the original so good. It’s kind of a shame that the Rock didn’t more movies like Faster and went down the “I’m a product” hole instead.
