I grew up at 162nd Street between Melrose Avenue and Elton Avenue from 1961 until 1982. I use to walk all over The Bronx and I did not recognize a thing! How beautiful some areas have become with all those new office & apartment buildings. When you reach 161 street I was surprise to see that 161st Street was cut off between Elton Ave and Washington Ave. That street use to run from Yankee Stadium straight to 3rd Avenue where it ended. I see now that many things have change in that area for the better because it never look that good back in the 1970's. I love it! Thank you so much.

@@ThomEchi yes, I was raised in still live in the Bronx since 1969 and as a kid I saw many burned and abandoned building and spaces that are know beautiful tall office buildings, college building, like Boricua college on 161 and Brook Ave. The New Courthouse on 161 and Morris Ave. So many places are now rebuilt with beautiful private houses and Senior Buildings. You also have Luxury Hotels, and condominium apartment buildings. The Bronx is being improved and yes things will be as expensive here because the businesses that were here at the ports will also come back. I think NYC in general will continue to improve.

@@gil3484 They are gonna definitely wind up bringing the 3rd Avenue Elevated line back I'm telling . God 🙏 has a big vision and some one else has vision. Something is coming back I'm telling you. Every body is still processing about the old 8 3rd Avenue Elevated line tairing it down and they were protesting about they did not want this 3rd Avenue Elevated line to come down but they torn it down like a dam fool and now the south Bronx is definitely suffering without the Subway 3rd Avenue Elevated line wich that everybody could catch the train get on the train and now they have to wait for a bus 🚌 . You look at the new developments at south Bronx Clearmount Avenue Webster Ave Bronx. The mayor Eric Adams said that south Bronx definitely needs Transportation over there and he said out of his own moth and I have the article right 👍 on the news paper 📜. Eric Adams is telling the gospel truth about the 8 Third Ave Elevated line shouldn't never been talking down in the first place. you know that was a crime of taking down this 8 3rd Avenue Elevated line down . The old president Robert mosses could not stand extra elevated lines at all. They torn down the 8 3rd Avenue Elevated line down on purpose. if that was the case they should of torn down the 2 5 trains. The 2 5 8 lines has the same exact metal steel structures.

How is it like living in New York? My whole family is from the Bronx and I WISH I would have been too cause it seems like there’s so much culture to it, history and more. I love hearing the stories from my abuelita when she tells them❤️ it seems like it was a good place to live back then. It seems like there is so much to do! I love how you can just walk to where you need to be. Here in Florida you have to drive far to EVERY WHERE 😩😩

New York City is a great place to live, but it has its pros and cons like all big cities. Your Granny (Abuelita) must have told you many interesting stories. I lived in the Michelangelo Apartments, which are across the street from Lincoln hospital. The 149th and Grand Concourse station should've been renamed after me since I went up and down those stairs so many times. I also worked at Hostos College. I am really grateful that you took the time to record this walk, especially along 149th. Incidentaly, some people call this section of the Bronx The Hub, since the central post office and Lincoln, as well as the Third Avenue shopping district are centrally located relative to the other 4 boroughs of the city. I wish you could walk though the courtyards of the Michelangelo apartments. It would be great to see how they look today. I left in 1985. Thanks again. You do great work. @ThomEchi
@ThomEchi 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks @Daniel Eyre for stopping by. I am attaching here a section of South Bronx redevelopment from Wikipedia. I hope it answers your question. Beginning in the late 1980s, parts of the South Bronx started to experience urban renewal with rehabilitated and brand new residential structures, including both subsidized multifamily townhomes and apartment buildings.[30] The Sunnyslope estate, later the Bright Temple A.M.E. Church, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Over $1 billion were spent on rebuilding the area through the 1990s, with 19,000 apartments having been refurbished and more than 4,500 new houses having been built for the working class. More than fifty abandoned apartment buildings on the Major Deegan Expressway and the Cross Bronx Expressway were renovated for residential use. Over 26,500 people moved into the area. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Bronx

@@ThomEchi Thanks. It’s making a lot of sense now how it went from looking like Germany at the end of the war to what it is now. It’s insane how it degenerated to how it was in the late 70s.
