Nice little virtual visit to where I took my first breaths in 1952 at Westchester Square Hospital. Lived a few blocks away on Tremont in the seventies, But grew up mostly in Castle Hill which now seems like a war zone. Now I'm over Ten thousand miles away.

The neighborhood looks good. Very little litter on the streets. Houses are in good shape. The stores are all rented, occupied. Too many of the stores are chains, rather than locally owned, but that's how it is everywhere these days. Historic area. The Town of Westchester was established on Westchester Creek, during the period of Dutch New Amsterdam 1619-1663. The founders were English colonists following the Long Island Sound shore down from New England. The Dutch sent the militia. The town became "Oostdorp" only to revert to "Westchester" when New Amsterdam fell to the English. The Huntington Free Library has been on the square since 1891. It is an early public library, not a part of the NY Public Library system, which it predates.

Bravo. Fine job. You explored many of trhe main streets, the shopping areas and the different styles of architecture. If you ever go back, walk on Lydig past White Plains Road for a block or so, and you will come to Bronx Park East and Boston Road, where there is a wonderful play and sitting area, and lots of trees, besides some beautiful Art Deco buildings. This area also adjoins the Bronx Zoo.

I lived in that neighborhood for many years and no one ever called it the Park hill area, Park hill starts at Park Hill ave and its streets from it. You need not to believe everything that google says.

If you know how to read a map you are in the Riverdale or Ludlow area. Park hill statrs at the bottom of Mclean and Van cortlandt ave where Pelton park is.
@ThomEchiАй бұрын
@mrmets7216, obviously, you still haven't read the map enclosed in the link. Do you see all the dotted lines? Those are the boundaries of the Park Hill community. I don't want to spend time responding to this subject. If you don't like it, take it up with your community jurisdiction and various organizations from which Google sources its data.

I used to live in the Bronx, 207th street Decatur. I live with my parents now in Florida. Florida is much safer. When I was in the Bronx, I always got picked on in school. It still happens in Florida but the difference is, when I go out no one really bothers you down here because I live in a safe neighborhood

Cardinal Hayes class of 1964 here! Thank you for all the walks through my old neighborhoods. Back in those days, Concourse Village didn't exist. The whole area from Morris Ave (now Conc. Village E) all the way to Sheridan Ave was a huge train yard. No buildings at all. That 153rd St bridge @RichardofDanbury talked about ran from Morris Ave to Hayes high school across nothing but train tracks - no buildings at all west of Morris all the way to Hayes.I really appreciate all your videos. I think I know more about the Bronx now from your walks than I ever did living there. Great videos - thank you!
