It looks so fun to paint a flower. Was it? Or were you dreading it failing the whole time? My fav flower was a Tiger Lily when I was young. They grow all over Virginia. And orange is my fav color. I love your casting. It's so beautiful!!!

very nicely put together as always. doing something you know might fail and keeping the result is far better than not doing it because it might not be perfect. Moving is painful, but how many lost things did you find? What is next? And what was the mystery casting from a previous video? I forgot to read those comments. Happy Thanksgiving from Calif!

I feel you should really be adding some sprues to the tips of the petals, leading back upwards towards the button (they don't need to be connected to the base. This will give the air somewhere to go, and help the flow of the metal through a thin broad piece flow much smoother, rather than trapping lots and it solidifying the thin section whilst waiting for the vacuum to suck it out. That shouldn't be an issue given you've already lightly waxed them, so will stick easily :) Keep up the awesome vids dude! you remain the #1 channel i recommend to people when they ask about the shit i do much more poorly :)
@noviceartisan5 ай бұрын
At least that's how it work when i've done big things with lots of bits sticking out, they've failed unles i've given the air somewhere else to go, it does work for me and i strongly believe the same principal is at work with this delicate lilly :)

Question for the artist/smith. Is there an avenue to order/purchase a piece from you? I kinda fancy those bronze swords. I know such meticulously hand-crafted items are actually worth quite a lot. I just don't know what " a lot" constitutes and whether or not such a thing would even be in my realistic price-range.

To be honest I really don’t sell that kind of stuff. I just make it for the videos. Some day I will produce some things to sell.

Hello! I had a question for you. When you say you keep the flask around 1200 degrees, do you mean Celsius or Fahrenheit? Also what temperature do you usually use for something less thin than the tiger lily? Thank you for any help!
@lundgrenbronzestudiosАй бұрын
Yes it’s in Fahrenheit. I normally have the flask around 900-1000F.

Hello I am from Kerala, India. Can we cast something without vacuum chamber because we are interested to know how we can cast well without vacuum chamber.
@lundgrenbronzestudios5 ай бұрын
Yes you can. A higher riser or length of spru wax can give it more hydrostatic pressure to help force the metal in. But also adding vents to any place that air can get trapped will be a good solution.

@@lundgrenbronzestudios Oh, that's a shame. Well, maybe things will get easier after the weather warms up. You've got me interested in doing bronze now. I only did one trial piece as an experiment, a small medallion, but it came out well. I'm using centrifugal casting, as I don't have an appropriate furnace yet for doing vacuum. I'll check out your other channel!

@ centrifugal casting does a good job. It’s hard to do big pieces though.

@@lundgrenbronzestudios Agreed. I mostly like it for the amount of control I get over how much pressure is pushing the metal into the mold. I can reproduce the very finest details and thinnest sections. But the machine I have is just made for jewelry and similar-sized things, up to about 2 inches in diameter or so. I have been collecting the materials to build a bigger version, with an arm about 4 feet long, that should be able to do things up to 8-10 inches in diameter. But now you've got me interested in trying vacuum casting. Only I don't know of any place to get a vacuum pump of adequate capacity. So maybe I should try a vacuum reservoir tank?

Knew the pedals would not be thick enough, especially without vents/sprues. Like you said a little more wax buildup/vents and she'd of been golden. Why so many little balls on surface everywhere? Good luck on your move.
@noviceartisan5 ай бұрын
those little balls are trapped air bubbles, because he's not yet made a vacuum chamber big enough to degas those insanely huge flasks with. He'll need to not only make a semi decent one from something like thick acrylic and seal it, but also pay for quite an expensive pump to suck the air out fast enough to make it effective. Things like that aren't cheap, or easy to make. Given how easy it is to remove a few bubbles from most surfaces, I think not doing it is acceptable most the time.
