Brook & Compton Bay Fossil Hunting

Fossil hunting in Brook Bay and Compton Bay on the west coast of the Isle of Wight, England.
This area contains Cretaceous terrestrial strata and fossils most commonly being fossil wood and dinosaur bone. The border between the two beaches is famous for hosting a large amount of dinosaur footprints from theropods and ornithopods.
During this trip I also came across a few animals including peregrine falcons,dogfish (sharks) and half a dolphin.
Oh also this was an absolute nightmare to produce with the terrible audio, compression artefaction and image sizing.

That dogfish was awesome! Ive never seen a shark of any sort.

Yeah I thought you would like it. It’s the second time I’ve seen a shark in a while (first was a stingray which is technically a shark) and I may have seen the shadow of a basking shark years ago but I’m unsure. Also funny coincidence. The shark egg tossed into my hand at the start was a dogfish egg.

Yeah I’ll post a video of the finds in a future video. (Hopefully I’ll get it out before the turn of the century for once 🤣) unfortunately being pyratized, most of the particularly delicate and detailed fossils (such as a perfect grain eye) degraded even with application of paraloid B72.

Hey i recommend eye glasses or goggles when hitting concretions. I got an subconjunctival hemorrhage in my left eye from a object hitting me. Spent days on the hospital being tested from potential brain damage.

Damn! Yeah that really bad luck! Yeah I have heavy duty goggles with me at all times (same ones as Yorkshirefossils). It’s funny because a few years ago on Boxing Day my dad and brother were tossing around stems of willow weed (hollow and brittle stem plant) and one struck me in the eye. It went in above my eyeball 1 inch, hit the bone and went up. With one inch sticking out. I was lucky to keep my eye without any real damage and got out a day later. My vision isn’t 20/20 anymore but I don’t think that’s because of the incident. So I was more lucky in that sense. Getting a subconjunctional haemorrhage is scary. Almost as scary as the hospital bill since you’re in America! 😂

@@RapidReptilez I’m sorry what. Twenty… thousand… dollars… my hospitality stay with IV and surgery was completely free. I just asked my parents again to make sure and apparently not even the painkillers cost anything. That’s insane to me. I would have thought US taxes would be a lot lower because of it but they’re actually higher on average. And the US spends a larger percentage of their annual budget on healthcare. Where does it go?
