He knows that, that's why when Brooke asked him if he could go back would he change anything he told her that he tries to appreciate the things he took for granted(he was referring to the way he lost the most wonderful person he's ever met and the way he hurt her and didn't give her the most of his dedication and attention that Brooke needed from him). I still think that after the way Lucas grew in season 5 he and Brooke were meant for eo and could work it out in the end but bc of the divorce irl they had to make them just friends even tho they could never really be JUST friends bc that's not the way you look at a friend. ❤😢

Okay so basically he liked her friend (Peyton) but the friend was with his rival/half brother. So Brooke started dating Lucas and he ends up cheating on Brooke multiple times with Peyton, her best friend. Brooke and Lucas were supposed to be endgame but the actor/actress got married in real life. They divorced a year later I believe, because he cheated on Brooke (Sophia Bush) with Paris Hilton. And they no longer wanted to play love interest. So he eventually left the show.
