My dermatologist told me that washing hair infrequently actually worsens dandruff & dry scalp. Prescriptive Ketaconazole shampoo (Nizoral over the counter) is fantastic!!! I use 2-3 x's a week when having a flare-up. Otherwise maybe just once a week.

I’m a hairdresser and so many of my clients with itchy/dry scalps have loved the Sérum Extentioniste by Kerastase. It’s really hydrating but not oil based so you can put it on at night and let it soak through and you won’t need to wash it out. Since your scalp is irritated right now I would use it everyday and then 2-3x a week when it starts feeling better. I’m also obsessed with the red hair 💗

Washing your hair less is actually not helpful with the dry scalp! If you can wash it more I’d suggest doing that it helped a ton with my flaking and tension
