When you dedicate it to your dear dog you transmit a warm joy. Instead this song expresses a deep sadness, but also the courage of her author to dare to show it. I've only felt that emotional sincerity in very few songwriters/singers, like with Sinead O'Connor on "Nothing compares to you."

Already loved this song, Brooke, but this video made me appreciate the lyrics more as the blackness gave way to (at least muted) color and the presence of your dog signified a reminder that "it could be worse" without such steadying influences in your life.

Beautiful, Brooke - both the song and the video. When I first heard the song, I thought it was another take on your feelings about your father. But it being about depression makes a lot of sense to me too - as someone who has experienced their share of loss, and dealt with depression as well, I connect very strongly with this song.
