We wrote to Brooklyn Bethel the headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses as we were sincerely trying to find scriptural backing for the overlapping generations Watchtower of January 2014, watch this to find out what they provided!

As an ex elder and Special Pioneer I too was greatly troubled by this new teaching/understanding as you were. My mum always said to go to the" head and not the tail" and ask them .....IF they don't know the answer how will the rank and file fare any better. So I'm now 48 and I left when I was 17 in the 90's. So please tell me if I'm not crazy..I was raised a jw and to this very day I'm not a jw. I live my own life, have a family, had an extreme wild life as I'm a metal head, punk, goth industrial music person, etc. Long story short I still hold the good things that the witness held like manners, respect etc. however I feel like the jw never left me. It's like I still have a piece of the jw's still in my mind and body to this very day as it has never left. Every so often I still feel guilt and other such crazy religious feelings. I know it sounds insane but I feel like the way Marines always say...."there are no ex marines as once you retire the marines always stay with you." So I feel like that as in the witness always stays with you even though you left. Sorry the for the long rant. I still take the good values of jw life with me...not the bible or religious or jehovah stuff. I hope I'm not crazy for thinking this.

The generation/1914 teaching is a complete disaster. I told my wife, who still goes to the meetings, that I would have more respect for them if they said they didn't know what it meant, instead of this continual change in "understanding". They look foolish every time "Jehovah" shines "light" on their bullshit. It's like they have to prove they have god's spirit if they have an explanation for every scripture. When this doctrine came out, that's when I stopped attending for good..its sad really..so many people, including myself used to believe the end was close... now with my father at 84 passing last year, reality really sank in. They may be sincere, at least I believe the rank and file are, but its sad how they keep putting new carrots out in front of the flock to keep them going..but I think in the next few years, more and more will just fade away like I did.. there's only so much you can logically force yourself to believe before it becomes ludicrous

Whether the end is close or not shouldn't really be a factor. Hell, Jesus made it sound as if the end were coming within one generation of his lifetime. Remember, in essence, Jesus said the same thing 'Judge' Rutherford said: "There are some of you standing here today who will not taste death at all, until first they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with great glory...." Nearly every member of every Christian denomination has been expecting the END to come during his/her lifetime.

Jesus was speaking of the end of the Mosaic system of things. When the Romans laid siege to the city of Jerusalem and finally overthrew it in A.D. 70, the temple was burnt to the ground, the Jews were killed and /or dispersed, and the High Priesthood, the Sanhedrim and the sacrificial service were all abolished. JESUS' prediction came TRUE within the lifetime of those Jews whom He was specifically addressing while He was alive on earth. God came to His chosen people with Judgement because of they refused to believe in His Son whom HE'd sent to save them.

I am from Lapulapu City, Cebu, Philippines. I was born in a family that are Jehovah's Witnesses. I am also a Witness. My husband retired early from military service in 2013 to join me in my faith. My two sons and my husband got baptized in 2014. It is our goal to serve the One True God as Jehovah's Witnesses. I took up PSS last October 19-24, 2015. Last December, i came out into open about some of my queries. I am too afraid to ask because i know it is risky. My questions are as follows: 1.) Why can't we follow closely the examples set by our Lord Jesus Christ and his apostles in addressing to our Heavenly Father? In fact, Jeremiah 3:19 NWT says: "I also thought that you would call me, ‘My Father!’ ". They never address the Almighty God in such a way that we, Jehovah's Witnesses, frequently do. One of my Bible Studies who attended the meeting for the first time commented: "I like the prayer but i just wonder why in your publications, casual conversations, and here in the Kingdom Hall, you often used to address our Heavenly Father simply as "Jehovah" alone." He was stumbled and refused to continue his study. 2.) Are we not responsible for others who showed interest in the Bible but got stumbled because of our tradition in addressing the Almighty? Yes, i was convinced that being Jehovah God's friends, we are authorized to call Him that way as the prophets did, who existed before Christ, BUT I am afraid of what the Bible said at 1 Cor. 8:9, 11, 12 NWT: "But keep watching that your right to choose (authority) does not somehow become a stumbling block to those who are weak.11 So by your knowledge the man who is weak is being ruined, your brother for whose sake Christ died. 12 When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak conscience, you are sinning against Christ. 3.)How does the organization apply the words of our Lord at Acts 1:7 when our Lord instructed to his apostles: “It does not belong to you to know the times or seasons that the Father has placed in his own jurisdiction" and yet there were time prophesies made by our organization like for example about 1914, 1925, and 1975? When those time prophesies failed, who, then, were accountable to the Almighty, or should we say to the Christ, for those who got stumbled and left this organization? I am afraid to say that they were those whom we know and called as "faithful and discreet slaves" who fed them and who are now feeding us "new light". I was shocked upon realizing these things that i cannot control my tears in my supplications for forgiveness for all my negative thoughts about them because we deeply respect and commend them for everything they’ve done for us. 4.) If the light is getting brighter and brighter, a.) can you explain what does our 2012 calendar mean when it said "the gathering of the humans with earthly hope began after Christ came into Kingdom power in 1914"? b.) can you explain what the Watchtower Study Edition, March 15, 2015, foretold? Learn From the Illustration of the Talents Par 11.) Jesus said: “After a long time, the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them.” (Matthew 25:19) The Master, Jesus, will do this toward the end of the great tribulation. Par. 13.) Just before the great tribulation, God will give his final approval to the hardworking anointed ones who are still on earth at that time. This is their final sealing. (Revelation 7:1-3) Question: If final sealing has been done before the great tribulation, how come that there’s still ‘settling of accounts’ toward the end of the great tribulation? I do believe that the True God is not of confusion. According to Insights of the Holy Scriptures, ANTICHRIST means "denial of any or all of the Scriptural teachings concerning Christ". When i asked some of the elders in our congregation about these things, they told me that if i wont stop questioning the organization which means questioning our God, which is bad, then i will be disfellowshipped. I can see now that the structure is just the same as those of the Pharisees cited at John 16:2,3 NWT Men will expel you from the synagogue. In fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he has offered a sacred service to God. But they will do these things because they have not come to know either the Father or me. I cannot anymore see God's love in this organization nor the Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ guiding this organization. Me and my family are so sad because we are now afraid that we will lose all our friends and relatives who are Jehovah's Witnesses (my uncle is an Assembly Overseer but cannot also answer our questions). We do not have outsider friends aside from our Bible Studies because we kept ourselves busy in group witnessing, cart witnessing, handling Bible Studies, family worship, attending midweek and week-end meetings, and personal Bible study. I feel pity for my family and feel responsible for the situation. I feel like i am spiritually hungry while the organization keeps on claiming that we are in a spiritual paradise. I seek for more spiritual food but then they would like to disfellowship me (for apostacy?) and perhaps all of us in the family which includes my husband and two sons. We are supplicating that the Holy Spirit of our Heavenly Father thru our Lord Jesus Christ will guide us towards His true congregation.

Interesting, I passed Calc 4 (A+) , Linear Algebra(A+), Differential Equations(A+) and all the Advanced Chemistry and Biology Classes for a degree in Science. I've been researching things the last few months and have decided to stop going to meetings as well. I don't believe any longer that this is God's chosen organization. I'm believing more and more that...we all have a personal relationship w God and we have the freedom to approach him and come to accurate understandings through our one on one connection with him. When I googled the definition of the word generation it said "people who live in relatively the same time period". So even though Joseph had some older brothers and some younger ones who outlived him, they still lived in relatively the SAME time period. Not only that, but the Insight book under generation says people who are born about the same time in the very first sentence. It does go on to say that Jesus' use of generation in Matthew: "he was also using the word “generation” with reference to humans whose lives would in some way be associated with the foretold events during his presence". There is NOTHING about overlapping life spans in their own publication!!! It's totally new... I don't see how "new light" = changing the definition of words. Ugh.

In other words, even Watchtower's presumptuousness, and reproachful predictions will not stop God from doing what he said he would. There's a Watchtower article which actually tries to pat itself on the back for continually 'crying wolf' by claiming that it is far better to have a watchman who is overly sensitive, than one who fails to give warning. The problem with this reasoning, is that the first or second 'false alarm' would probably get most watchmen fired. Indeed, Deuteronomy 18:10 DEMANDS it.

I wrote to London Bethel in early 90's about CSA but did not receive any such reply, although there had been police involvement. I left that organisation in 2005 it was the best way forward. I was also told those who ‘saw’ 1914 and understood its significance would have to be at least late teens. That means they would have had to be born around 1896 or thereabouts. I had concerns about this also, but then I remember that it is he that endures to the end is the one that will be saved, They call these things new truths and everyone gets excited again, The generation that saw the beginning of the signs were thought to be Brother Franz who died in 1994 but during the time he lived or to put it another way his generation others were born and witnessed the signs and became anointed, these were known as contemporaries and the youngest I know of is 51 years old who professes to be of the anointed, so according to scripture he will pass through to the Great Tribulation and fulfil bible prophesy by being part of the living anointed to witness the conclusion of the system of things.

if you read carefully matthew24-1-33 you will see that many of the numerous signs Jesus gave regarding "this generation"are indeed here and thus fulfilled,equally you can also list signs that have NOT yet taken place,they are still future. If they are still future,then that would mean the generation that Jesus is speaking about is fluid, at this point in history.It is NOT until every sign that Jesus gave becomes apparent in a single generation then those ones of that time would know. Jesus says this in mattew24:34 34Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. NOT ALL THINGS HAVE HAPPENED as yet,so it is impossible to define"that generation" at this time.Rather than trying to determine the generation,which the Jw's have done to their own demise.We should rather listen to what Paul tells us to do while we are waiting for Him. 1 Thessalonians 5:2 "for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night." We need to be awake,ready and on the watch!

It's very sad and disturbing that for well over a century they have put such emphasis on dates. However, what could make the situation even worst is if the great tribulation should unfold in ways completely unexpected for JW's. At that time one can't help but wonder: will they continue to stay loyal to an organization or will they stay loyal to God and his son? That may well be a test that many will have to face. One can only hope that their love for God will survive whatever downfall the Watchtower may experience in the future.

However, Circuit Overseer Beagle, who was being groomed for the position of member of the Governing Body , died after being in Bethel only one year due to a viral infection in his heart. So, a generation is still 40 years, why did they not wake up to their mistake in 1954? or perhaps they are using the generation of 70 years, then why did they not figure out they were wrong in 1984, but there is no Biblical precedent for a generation of more than 70- to 80 years, so the 40 year generation makes the most sense, so we are in the 3rd (overlapping ) generation, how come it took them so long to figure this out? What about all the people who were disfellowshipped for apostasy for questioning their chronology, which they now admit is wrong? How is this "faithful" or discreet? How is it logical? Jesus said "This generation will not pass away" and it didn't!, he came to destroy Jerusalem as he foretold, and he established his kingdom back in 70 CE. They have missed the boat. Peace

There can only be two explanations for the ‘New Light’ always miraculously occurring when the old light has become non credible. 1) Jehovah God is happy to feed his earthly mouthpiece misinformation to keep his followers on their toes. 2) The GB are without inspiration. But rather ordinary men making it up as they go along. Explanation 1 goes against all the Bible teaches us about God’s qualities. With the constant change in reasoning how can anyone have confidence in what’s current? Explanation 2 means that the GB have no where near the credibility needed to control JW’s lives on a micro level including encouraging shunning those who leave the organization which is loveless and just plan bad...

How can anyone take the dozen or so verses out of the New Testament that foretold the return of Jesus and miss the point that Jesus is speaking of those he was speaking to? He chastises them, he exhorts them to pray, not be found in a state of drunkenness etc making it crystal clear his words were directed to the generation standing in front of him. “So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭21:31-32, 36‬ ‭KJV‬‬ Yes, I understand the implications of Christ telling these specific people that he would return, but he did not. Regardless of being unfulfilled that is the correct understanding. "Overlapping Generations" that's crazy talk.

OK so last night I wrote a fairly lengthy reply to a JW (Daro Weilburg, check out his ramblings on his KZbin channel) who commented on this video a few months ago saying basically we were liars and apostate and to go to his channel (comments disabled BTW) to find out the truth about the generation meaning. His video response was basically saying anyone who leaves are and I quote "morons" and then he encourages all the morons to come back to the organisation. Unsurprisingly he deleted his comment and thus my comment as well. These ultra holy witnesses who respond to videos they are told by watchtower not to view are as fake and hypocritical as the ones they "warn" about. I'm fairly certain that if the GB saw his videos they wouldn't approve of the tactics and language he is using to try and encourage those who have left to rejoin the organisation. It's "brothers" like him who give the organisation a bad name, amongst the miriad of other things they do.
