ABOUT BROOKLYN NINE-NINE
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" follows the exploits of hilarious Det. Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and his stoically ever-professional captain, Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher), along with their diverse, lovable colleagues as they police the NYPD's 99th Precinct. In this final season of the series, Jake and the squad must try to balance their personal lives and their professional lives over the course of a very difficult year.
Rounding out the ensemble is Sgt. Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumera), who has a passion for organization and a weakness for dork dancing; Lt. Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews), a mountain of a man whose most powerful muscle is his sweetheart; Jake's best friend and human puppy dog, Det. Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio); and the incredibly secretive, tough-as-nails Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz). Also part of the Nine-Nine are veteran officers Det. Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller) and Det. Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker), whose only skill as police officers is their ability to make a passable pot of coffee.
Created by Emmy Award-winning writer/producers Dan Goor and Michael Schur, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" won the 2014 Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical (Samberg). Emmy winner Braugher earned four Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Capt. Holt.

According to the podcast, he was mainly a dramatic actor in reality but he wanted this gig just to understand how the cast manages to improv and adlib on the fly. So in a sense, Andre really is Holt.

I know the answer. Let one guy stand in one side, and keep swapping out the guy in the other end. If our constant has the equal weight, then everyone except the imposter would give us a balanced see saw. For the imposter, the Direction in which the see saw falls is the answer. If the constant is the imposter, then after the second guy the answer would be obvious.

They shouldve picked a harder problem, complete dummies could figure this out in ten seconds. Balance 6 people on both sides, pick the group of 6 weighing down the seesaw. Out of those 6 balance 2 on each side, if they weigh the same you know the abnormality is one of the two remaining not on the seesaw, and if they dont weigh the same you choose the heavier group of 2 once again. with the last 2 remaining people use the seesaw for the third and final time to see who is heavier. Easy, problem solved. Holt and Amy really arent smart at all in the slightest if neither can even figure this out, now all their rantings seem to me like two dummies that are trying to convince you they know math and they are smart. Neither is the case.

For those who are interested in the first riddle, its actually quite difficult. You weigh balls 1-4 against balls 5-8, leaving balls 9 to 12 on the side. There are 3 different outcomes for weigh # 1 If weigh #1 is BALANCED, then you weight balls 8 and 9 against balls 10 and 11 (remember that we know ball 8 is normal). If weigh #2 is balanced then you know ball 12 is different so just weight it against any other ball to find out if it is heavier or lighter. If balls 8 and 9 are heavier then for weigh #3 balance ball 10 against ball 11. If they don't balance, then whichever one is lighter is the fake one. If they balance then ball 9 is fake and it is heavier. If balls 8 and 9 are lighter than 10 and 11 in weight #2, once again balance ball 10 against ball 11 for weigh #3 and use the same logic to find the result. If weigh #1 is uneven and balls 1-4 are heavier, we know that either the fake ball is a heavy 1-4 ball or a light 5-8 ball, and that balls 9-12 are normal. This is where it gets tricky. You weigh balls 1, 2 and 5 against balls 3, 6 and 9 (knowing that 9 is normal). If they balance, then either ball 4 is heavy, or balls 7 or 8 are light. repeat the same step as the time, and weigh ball 7 against ball 8. If they balance then ball 4 is heavy, if they don't balance then the lighter side is fake. If during weigh #2, balls 1, 2 and 5 are heavier, then either ball 1 or 2 is heavy, or ball 6 is light. For weigh #3 compare ball 1 and 2. If they balance then ball 6 is light, if they don't balance then the heavier side is fake. If during weigh #2 balls 3, 6 and 9 are heavier, then either ball 3 is heavy or ball 5 is light. For weigh #3, use ball 3 (or 5) against ball 9 (which you know is neutral). If they balance then ball 3 is a heavy fake, otherwise ball 5 is a light fake. If weigh #1 is uneven and balls 5-9 are heavier, just repeat the same steps as if balls 1-4 were heavier, it is exactly the same process. Hopefully this is understandable, it was difficult to write it in a way that explained it well!

A lot of people don't take into account that originally we don't know if the person we are trying to find is heavier or lighter and post wrong solutions. Here is a thorough and correct solution to the seesaw puzzle: 1. Split the 12 into three groups of 4. Let's call the groups A, B and C. Let's also call the person we are looking for X. Weigh A and B. Now you get the first idea about where X is: If the balance is equal, then it means all the persons in A and B weigh the same and therefore X is in group C. Otherwise, we know that it's in either A or B, but we don't know in which one because we don't know if X is lighter or heavier. We mark which group is heavier and which is lighter that the other, A or B, and that will help us later. In either case, we now have a control group that we know has only people of "normal" weight: if the balance was equal, the control group are all the persons from A and B, if the balance was unequal, the control group is C. (1st Weighting) 2.1 (A == B) If X was in C, we weigh 3 from C vs 3 from the control group and leave 1 of C unweighted (2nd Weighting). If they balance out, it means that the 3 people we weighted weigh the same as 3 normal people and therefore we know that X is the one we left unweighted (DONE in 2 Weightings). If however the 3 from C weigh less or more than the control group, we know that X is in those 3 AND because we weighted against "normal" people, we know whether he is Heavier or Lighter than normal. Now all we have to do is weigh any 2 of those 3 and we find X (3rd Weighting): if they weigh the same, it's the person we left out, if the weigh differently we find out who it is because we know if the person is heavier or lighter from the 2nd weighting. (DONE in 3 Weightings) 2.2 (A > B or A < B) If X was in A or B, we have 8 people to choose from. We also have a control group of 4 (group C). Here lies the trick: We have already seen the direction the seesaw tilted from the first weighting. We also know that the 3rd Weighting can only determine X if we are left with 2 or 3 people like we did in step 2.1, 4 are too many! So here is what we do: We take 3 people from group A and put them on one side of the seesaw, and we put 2 people from group B plus 1 from the control group on the other side of the seesaw but before weighing them, we switch one from the A group with one from the B group. That way we end up with this 3v3 (2nd Weighting): 2 from group A + 1 from group B (let's call it group D) vs 1 from group A + 1 from group B + 1 from the control group (let's call it group E) 2.2.1 (A > B or A < B) and (D == E) This means D and E consist of "normal" people and therefore X is one of those we didn't weigh (we didn't weigh 1 person from A group and 2 people from B group). We also know from the 1st weighting whether A group is heavier/lighter than B group. So we weigh the 2 people from B group (let's call them B1 and B2) (3rd weighting): If B1 == B2, it means that X is the one left from A group. If B1 =/= B2 then we know that either B1 or B2 is X and that A group had all normal people all along. That means that if A was heavier than B then we know that X is lighter than the others and consequently if A was lighter than B then X was heavier than the others. So if B1 > B2 and A > B then B2 is X, if B1 < B2 and A > B then B1 is X, if B1 > B2 and A < B then B1 is X, if B1 < B2 and A < B then B2 is X. (DONE in 3 weightings) 2.2.2 (A > B or A < B) and (D > E or D < E) This means that X is either on D or E. We already know from the 1st weighting whether A > B or A < B. We also know that the person in E group that we took from the control group won't affect the balance. That means that if during the 2nd weighting the balance changed direction, say A > B but D < E or A < B but D > E, we know X was one of the 2 that switched groups between A and B. We weigh either one vs one from the control group, if they weigh the same as the one from the control group then X is the other one, if they weigh differently then X is the one we weighted (DONE in 3 weightings). If however during the 2nd weighting the balanced didn't change direction, say A > B and D > E or A < B and D < E, we know that X was one of those that remained in their group when we switched one person between A and B. We weigh the 2 people from D group that were originally from A group (let's call them A1 and A2). If A1 == A2, it means X was the one we weighted from B group that is now in E. if A1 =/= A2 , it means that either A1 or A2 is X and that B group had all normal people all along. That means that if during the first weighting A was heavier than B then X is heavier than the others and consequently if A was lighter than B then X was lighter than the others. It's pretty much the inverse situation than 2.2.1. So: if A1 > A2 and A > B then A1 is X, if A1 < A2 and A > B then A2 is X, if A1 > A2 and A < B then A2 is X, if A1 < A2 and A < B then A1 is X. (DONE in 3 weightings)

for the curious weigh 4 against 4. if it's balanced, step a, if not, b. a) the anomaly is in the other 4. weight 3 of the other 4 against 3 from the original group. if they're still balanced, it's the last dude, check him against anyone to figure out. otherwise (the 3 new ones are unbalanced), they're either heavier than the norm or lighter, either way, you know which. weigh 1 against 1 from the 3. if they're balanced, it's the last dude, if one's heavier/lighter, you know out of heavier/lighter the anomaly is, and you've found them. b) the anomaly is either a lighter one in the 4 that were lighter, or heavier in the 4 that were heavier. either way, we have 4 people we know aren't the anomaly (the unweighed) do 3 of the 'lighter' group, with 1 of the heavier group (we'll call them c), against 3 of the unweighed group, and 1 of the lighter (we'll call them d). now, if it's heavy on c's side, it means the one of the 'lighter' men you moved was actually lighter, simply measure 1 v 1 out of them, the lighter one is the lighter, if they match, it's the 1 you didn't check. if it's heavy on d's side, either one who didn't move (c's heavier or d's lighter) is out of balance, and we weight them against any other man. if they match, one of the 3 heavier that came off is heavier, we measure them 1v1, heavier is the anomaly, or if they balance too, it's the last guy. in terms of monty hall, you just look at the outcomes. if you don't switch, you have a 1/3 chance. however, if you picked the wrong door, either way you're going to win. if you picked right, you'd lose. this makes it a logical fact, that if you pick a wrong door first, and switch, you will always win, and the opposite, if you always switch and happen to pick the correct door, you'll lose. 2/3. if you scale it up to 100 doors, and he opened every door but yours and one other door, you'll be able to visualise it much clearer the chance of picking the correct door out of 100 is 1%, if you had the chance to swap, knowing that you only had a 1% chance of getting it right then, you had a 99% of getting it wrong, and that doesn't change.

With either result youve narrowed it down to three people, two of which from one side of the first step and one from the other side. Then you weigh those two from one side againt each other and have a result. In step a i also had that you put 2 from the 4 remaining against 1 of the remaining and a normie with similar consequences than your solution but thats just more complicated. So you separate the 12 men into groups of 6 and weigh one of them 3-3, if the seesaw stays level the man is not in that group, it it doesn't he is. Having levelled it down to 6 men you split this group into two 3s and measure it against 3 of the 6 confirmed not to contain the man. If the seesaw does not move, the man is not within the group of 3 you have weighed, so weigh the other group against 3 of the confirmed not to contain the man, and depending on which side the seesaw leans towards tells you whether the man is heavier or lighter.

@@GTisJAVO1996 I'm a bit late on this one, but in case you haven't found out by now, I'll try to explain it in a different/more elaborate way: There are two doors with goats in them and one door with a car, so when you make your initial guess you have a 66% chance of hitting a goat, right? That doesn't change when the person reveals the second goat; there's still a 33% chance that you chose the car on your initial guess, so switching to the other option gives you a better chance, since now you KNOW that it obviously doesn't contain the "second" goat, and you still most likely (66%) also hit a goat on your first guess. :)

This puzzle was fun. Standard idea: We solve it by giving people good names. The first thing to notice is that because we don't know if the special weight is higher or lower, we need to "identify" possible outcomes. For example, say we actually weigh the special person all 3 times, we need to be able to pick them out whether the left is lower all three times or if the right is lower all three times. Essentially, for each round, we have three possible measurements: I'll record 0 if the left side is lower, 1 if the right side is lower, and 2 if the sides are equal. Now, name each person from A to L, and have them be weighed in the following way: Test 1: LJHE on left, FGIK on right, DCBA off Test 2: IHBA on left, CFGL on right, KJED off Test 3: KJGA on left, BDFL on right, IHEC off To be explicit, here is how the data is identified and I've written how outcomes correspond to the special person. Note 222, 010, and 101 are impossible. 222 000=111 F 001=110 G 002=112 H 010=101 011=100 L 012=102 I 020=121 J 021=120 K 022=122 E 200=211 A 201=210 B 202=212 C 220=221 D If you want to doublecheck my work without thinking it through, you can just check what happens when you declare one of the people to be special (either heavier or lighter), and see what happens. :) To be clear, when solving such a problem, you write the possible data and then write the names as you style the tests. It feels a bit like sudoku and is why the names and the data might look like they're in a funny correspondence! Also, for the Monty Hall problem, of course you should switch. You get the car if and only if your first guess was wrong (which has probability 2/3). Holt is definitely bad at math haha

what's your algorithm to divide those 12 people, even your first test doesn't seem to follow a simple pattern. I'd thought of dividing simply as ABCD / EFGH / IJKL but you're way off this pattern. So, how did you choose the 1st and how did you modifiy it for the 2nd and 3rd test? And why did you test again some people that you are 100% sure are not the special one ? At your 1st test, if the scale isn't balanced, you can just cast aside the reserve and vice versa. So, i began with something like, weigh 3 vs 3, leave 6 off. With one test you skim 6 people right away. But with my method , you cannot determine the special with 3 test.
@Monstrick1
@Monstrick1 3 жыл бұрын
@@JMTchongMbamiYou can split remaining 6 into 3 groups in the 2nd round, and weigh 2v2, so you can figure out which duo has the lighter or heavier person from just one weigh in. So third round is just 1v1. But it implies that there is a "balanced" state availiable to be read from scales. So, i think people are overthinking it.
