Yes those were the days.........Oh one more thing.......can't forget the BOOM BOX that's the size of a Samsonite suitcase that took about 18 D batteries and if you were lucky you had a hand truck or dolly toting a car battery just to keep that box running........lol

One of the better versions of the Greatest Dance Anthem of All Time, probably because it comes off more like a mix of the original than a remake. Is there a NY/NJ?Philly 70s-80s partier who DOESN'T jump out of their seat when they hear this played even today? 84 King Forever...

Yes, I think this is the version of the song where the ancestry leading towards "Deep In Vogue" (1989) really starts to become apparent. DIV, of course, used samples of "Paris is Burning" which was still unreleased at the time. Haven't seen the film but I love Deep In Vogue, such a masterful track and a watershed recording. The Waltz Darling album really deserves a special edition re-release, and one track that should be included on such a project would be: the original edit of DIV; before Mark Moore and William Orbit set about remixing and expanding it, and adding all the samples.

I love the simplicity of this track and of people back then: one great bassline and everybody went out of their skulls and had a great "effing" time... At the end of the day, you don't need much to have a great time: good people around you, a good vibe and a good tune... the great atmosphere you create together and not with bullshit superfluous stuff... 'cause if the atmosphere isn't there, no amount of gimmicks can make it for you.

I beg to differ, Larry played this ALL the time, for a period there, particularly during the late set hours (10 Am to noon). I remember it like it was yesterday. After a few months of it, I was sick of it and longed to get back to just dancing to the original. But this version most definitely had its day.
@hardcorehouse9 жыл бұрын
Playing it at 10-12 am basically reinforces my point; that time of the day they could play almost anything, including filler, given the conditon of the crowd at that time. Strictly B material filler.
@njplr9 жыл бұрын
Will D You couldn't be more wrong. That Garage crowd KNEW its music, that's why went there there, and stayed till the noon closing. "Filler" music was NOT acceptable. 'B' music at The Garage - HAH! I can't say I like every song played equally, and I already admitted that this one got on my nerves after a bit - but Larry never descended into that "who-cares-what's-being-played" thing one could find at other clubs.
@hardcorehouse9 жыл бұрын
If you really knew the G, you'd know that there were plenty of times that Larrys mixes SUCKED, especially as the drugs became bigger parts of his life. You're too loyal and sentimental; I was there, with a better, clearer memory. YOU go and dance to this, it's elevator music.

I've always been a big admirer of Deep in Vogue, this amazing and really groundbreaking track. Someone pointed out a few references and nods to Love is the Message in DiV, so I've been checking out a few versions of this equallt classic song - from the 1973 original to the Larry Levan and Danny Krivit versions from the late 1980s. I think this 1982 recording is where you really begin to hear the pedigree of what would become Deep in Vogue several years later.. The light, funky bassline, the keyboard harmonics, and of course the saxophone (though the original had ample brass as well). I don't think the references take away any of the originality of either track though - both are landmark recordings! :)
