The surest path to contention now seems to build via draft. Celtics, Nuggets, OKC, Houston, Hawk, Pistons, Spurs...a lot of good teams headlined by prospects they got via draft.

It’s always been how to build a team. You pair young up and coming stars with the older stars you’ve had from previous generations. Don’t go star hunting and just draft well if you can.

@johnnyraylopez9182 thats not true in the past it was always star or big 3 driven like Celtics KG, Lebron Heat, Lakers Shaq/Kobe/Gasol etc Sure you have 1 homegrown star but the focus back then is star hunting via trades and free agent signings not really the draft.

I am a Nets fan. I would prefer they draft a great talent, build around them, and not take shortcuts. 3/4 year windows at best in today’s nba is not feasible. Look at what’s happening to the clippers suns and lakers, they are in the middle of the conference. Drafting the right way at worse gives you near a decade with that talent to figure out how to build the roster correctly
