Dungeon Dice Monsters....... 1. The GBA game was actually pretty fun. 2. I feel those episodes do a good job of showing why Yami is the King of Games. If I remember correctly, Duke makes a remark about how Yami is reading through the rules at every opportunity. He's playing a new game and is looking for mechanics and strategies that he can take advantage of.

If i recall correctly there is a group of yugioh cards that is only handed to yugioh world champions where the effect is just "if this card's attack wins you the round, you win the entire match". The funny thing is that, accirding to yugioh rules, you can forfit a round at any point during any phase. Therefore you can always 100% negate the effect by just giving up before the effect activates

One of fondest elementary school memories was when two dudes were playing a super serious deck, everyone was on edge watching it, only for one of them to play the Man-Eater Bug, throw it on the monster card he wanted to destroy, grabbing both and flinging them into the air while saying "SWALLOW IT, EXPLODE!!" and causing everyone there to lose their shit laughing.

I think one of the few clever things that can be interpreted in relation to Joey and Kaiba; Kaiba's quote is kind of the closest he gives Joey as a compliment. "You're a third-rate duelist with a fourth-rate deck." could be read as "You're not the best but you're holding yourself back." I still read it as an insult but there is a second layer I always give it when I hear the line.
@pheonixfireblazer Жыл бұрын
I feek a better insult would have been saying "You're a fourth rate duelist with a third rate deck". The implication being your deck is better than you, yet you still suck. But I also think the original line maybe just wasn't thought about that deeply. Not sure if it's in the original Japanese or just from the English dub

the penguin card that has a flip effect that reads "unite the deck". My favourite card is "Time Thief Redoer". It is an XYZ monster with 2400 atk and 2 really good but not super broken effects. Its first effect is during the standby phase (start of the turn) he can add the top card of the opponents deck to himself. His other effect lets him remove up to 3 cards from himself and depending on the type of card it can do stuff (Monster card banish himself from the field til the end of the turn, Spell draw 1 card and Trap PLACE 1 face up card the opponent controls to the top of their deck and because it says place not target it can be used on cards which cannot be targeted). I love pairing this monster with the continuous spell time thief hack to boost his atk then use XYZ import to attach my opponents monster to him

Iirc, one of Joey’s best moments was when he almost defeated the arc villain about three quarters of the way through the arc; if I’m remembering correctly they were playing a shadow game where their monsters were tied to their actual lifeforce and Joey is hanging on through sheer willpower and he orders his monster to attack Marick which will win the duel; and at this point even Marick is shitting himself because he knows he’s about to lose, but Joey faints and goes into a coma just before the attack can connect, meaning that he automatically forfeits and thus loses, but even then Marick is visibly shaken by how close Joey came to defeating him. There’s a part of me that kinda wishes Joey had won, because that would’ve been such a subversion of expectations; we the audience knew there was no way Joey would win because obviously the climax of the arc was going to be Yugi/Yami vs Marick, so having Joey win would have been so unexpected and the writers could probably have used that to take things in an unexpected direction rather than the well trodden Yugi vs BBEG fight spread out over a dozen episodes. On a side note with Kiba and showing respect in Japanese - as I understand it, you only use a person’s first name in Japanese if you’re close to them or being rude to them, so I don’t get why they call Kiba by his surname, but only ever called his brother by his first name. Like later on when they’ve become friendly with Mokuba, I get why they use his first name and calling Kiba ‘Kiba’ shows the distance between them, but initially shouldn’t they have called them both Kiba? I guess that could be confusing for the audience without context clues, so maybe that’s why? 🤷🏻♂️ I guess it also feels strange because in the first episode wasn’t it shown the elder Kiba was in the same class as Yugi &Co., so it feels like it would’ve been more natural for them to have called Kiba ‘Seto’ and Mokuba ‘Kiba’ due to being more familiar and contemporary with the elder brother than the younger one. On a side side note - speaking of them in school, why does Yugi wear his school uniform everywhere? Even when the others are in casual clothes he still wears his uniform; doesn’t he own any other clothes? What did he and his grandfather spend all their money on cards and now can’t afford more than one outfit each? 😝

Honestly, my favorite card when I played, was a card called the Maiden with Eyes of Blue. It had 0 attack and defense, but it's effect was literally, if an effect targeted it, summon a Blue Eyes from your hand, deck, or graveyard, and if it's attacked, do the same, but negate the attack, and change it's position. And you could do it every turn. So I would just spam the single Blue Eyes that I had, cause, pretty much, even if it died, I could just bring it back. It was a very fun way to fuck with someone. That and Black Hole. A spell card that just destroys every monster on the field. I loved keeping that in reserve, and then dropping it the moment someone summoned their strongest monster, then following it with the Maiden with Eyes of Blue.

I think one of the things that I love about Joey and Yugi is that Time Wizard is probably one of the most key cards in Joey's deck and it was given to him by Yugi, and the entire time Time Wizard always made his opponent's cards weaker, but when they come to finals and it's Yugi vs Joey and Joey tries to use Time Wizard on Yugi, it only makes Dark Magician stronger. it's hilarious that it almost feels like a setup by Yugi.

my favorite is always ultimate conductor tyranno as he is 3500 attacks everything and if it is too big he can pop another monster you control to book everything your opponent controls and also flip effects don't matter as he just sends def position monsters to grave and burns you a 1000 life and it does require either a card that specials him from deck from banishing proper materials from your grave or just 2 dinos in grave if you draw him. This card sounds crazy compared to the dm era but to give you an idea of how crazy modern yugioh is this deck is like a tier 4 deck where rarely anyone ever plays even with modern support.

I can definitely see and understand the frustration that Karl and Brad have with the new cards. Im a Yugioh vet who was around since the begining of the show; and even I dont enjoy or understand Link monsters and Pendulum monsters. I still play the game digitally but I try to only play against AI or play physically with my family who also collected Yugioh cards and built decks up to the XYZ phase (that was the last phase we bought physical cards). Yugioh is still an enjoyable game to play today, and the rules and cards (up to a certain type) can still be as easy as riding a bike. But the more often Link monsters and Pendulum monsters (and whatever other convoluted and confusing new type of cards they make next) become more of the norm, then ill be happy to keep playing with the family and against AI.

Once he was beside Freed, Command Knight, Mataza the Zapper, Sasuke Samurai, Exiled Force, Goblin Attack Force, Big Shield Gardna, and Amazoness Swordswoman he was the scariest. My Captains always got United We Stand because they must be the first monster attacked. 5200 isn't bad for a Lv 3 boss monster, all thanks to Freed the toolbox key.

I'd say the bigger issue with modern Yu-Gi-Oh is the fact that you're only limited by the cards in your hand. Games like Magic, Hearthstone and LoR limit the amount of cards you can play each turn with mana. YGH doesn't have a mana system, so there's nothing stopping you from playing every single card in your hand and deck on turn 1, unless your opponent has a handtrap, or you're going second. Some decks can quite literally go through almost every single card in their deck on the first turn, which is how you get FTK/OTK combos, like Exodia.

As somebody who played Speed Duel Monsters on Duel Links, I can safely say... The game is even more broken than when you guys quit. If you go first, if the opponent has no hand traps, you win. And that's such a gross unfun way to play a game. So much so that I purposely went from the upper crust of high level decks to the the lower levels of ranked just so I could have a normal fun game. Only problem is that some people in the lower levels don't know how cards work, and only know the combos, so if you trip them up once at any point, they fall over flat and lose. But then you have that one in a thousand game. You start playing, and the opponent knows their stuff. The game comes down to the wire because you're both doing wild things without getting exploitive or otk on each other. Man. I've played some wildly fun games like that. Just a shame it's so extremely rare.

I watch some Duel Links plays from a channel called SAGA and it's funnily edited games from Duel Links...but more often than not you'll see vintage cards that will flip a meta deck on it's head. You also see people just slaving themselves to their meta and not reading the cards the opponent uses. Like no joke there are vids I've seen by SAGA where his opponent will attack a card that the effect negates damage or makes it so his card can't be destroyed by battle. I started playing the game WAY back in the day...back before the first US structure deck was made thanks to buying some Japanese cards from a flea market stall at a rather large flea market where the guy had lots of import stuff...we're talking cards and model kits. Me and my friend were trying to play using the show rules...with cards we couldn't really read. I've seen the power creep and it's gotten to the point where things pop off so fast and so frequent that I don't even bother playing with anyone that isn't a close friend cause otherwise it'd just be too soul crushing to try and get back into.

Ya, Chaos Orb had the effect to flip it in the air (at least one rotation of 360* n from a height of at lea at one foot I believe) n any card in play that it is touching when it lands gets destroyed. It was an urban legend that some boss player had ripped up a copy n thrown the pieces into the air n wiped out most of the board n won the game. This however is an obvious lie when u stop to think about it since it means he no longer has that card in his deck for the next round or game so unless it happened in the last game of the final match it would’ve disqualified them from any future games. But by the official kitchen table rules back then of “Wut is written on the card is wut the card does” technically this would be a legal play for a best of 1 match. They did reference this meme when they made one of their not tournament legal joke sets n created the card Chaos Confetti which had the exact same effect as the Orb but specifically asked u to tear it to pieces before throwing it, just as the mythical person supposedly had. Also Summoned Skull having lower def than Dark Magician is actually better competitively since it meant u could find it with the effect of Witch of the Black Forest n similar cards that search things out of ur deck but only if they meet certain criteria n usually that is at least in part having a stat below 1500 so the never used def actually makes it a more synergistic card

Didn't the Yu Gi deck have a Trap card that boosted attack by 500? You could use that card when the blue eyes attacked your Dark magician.

the Yugi deck was substantially stronger than the Kaiba deck. Kaiba deck had a better top range of monsters, but the general card quality of the yugi deck, particularly the spells and traps were so much stronger that the kaiba deck was much weaker. Interestingly though, out of the 4 original decks (Yugi, kaiba, pegasus and Joey), the Joey starter deck was by far the strongest out of all of them.
