This was my husband‘s favorite song. He would play it over and over and over. And I played it for him at his funeral. One of these days I will be able to listen to this song without crying…
@epiphany5193 жыл бұрын
Know what you mean. When the love of my life passed the last thing we were able to share was a song by Faith Hill from the sound track of "Pearl Harbor" called "There You'll Be". She was a nurse who worked mostly with the elderly at a rehab hospital here. Neither of us are what you would call "young" but she still loved helping others. They called her their Angel and she was. She was also one of the most formidable yet loving people I have ever been privileged to know. Having a fundamental part of your life (in my case after 54 years) no longer there on a daily basis outside of your memories is hard. They say it gets better with time. Personally I think they're lying. I also know that she'd find a way to haunt my ass if I tried to just curl up and die. Life goes on. It may suck at times but you have to find joy in whatever you can. Hear a child laugh and remember a good time. See a leaf fall (it's fall here) and smile in memory of jumping into a pile (as older adults) and laughing about it (and praying you didn't leave a rake in the pile). Love doesn't have an expiry date. Take care all and thanks Sandy. I still can't get through "There You'll Be" without tears, maybe one day.
@BourbonCountryReacts3 жыл бұрын
I get why he'd do that. It's an important message. And sorry for your loss.

Sorry Sandy, but I cry all the time and have no such attachment. But what gets to me is that I believe these guys are starting to 'get it' as they react to country songs in which the concept of 'belief' is the antidote to the hardship that life brings us. The song is about far more than the musical genre and arrangements. While they are essential, as Charlie Parker noted, Country music is about the stories and the words.

I am so glad you listened to this. I can't hear this song without crying. I am fairly new subscribe so I haven't seen all your videos yet, but I suggest Some People Change by Montgomery Gentry. This song here reminds me of a wonderful African-American woman I met (back when I was in high school) when a church group I was part of went to a local nursing home every Wednesday night to sing. Mrs. Pitts was her name. I would get her from her room, take her to the service and then see her back to her room. She was one of the most amazing women I have ever known. She use to say anytime life had you down, stop what you were doing and think of five things you are grateful for. That's advice I still hold to twenty years later. I will never forget the Wednesday night I went to get her and a nurse told me that she had passed away the Friday before, just two days after I last saw her. I was heartbroken but I know where she is. Same with my grandmother, years later, who passed in her sleep less than three weeks from what would have been her 94th birthday. I know I will see them again someday. Until then, they are and always will be in my heart.

Ronnie Dunn (the singer) went to a Christian college and served as a youth and music pastor, so he most definitely has that southern gospel background you thought you heard! This is one of those songs that hits you in the feels and makes you think, for sure. Maybe give a couple of 90s country ladies a listen. Jo Dee Messina, "My Give a Damn's Busted," is fun. Shania Twain's, "Man, I Feel Like a Woman," video was a poke at Robert Palmer's video, "Simply Irresistable," which featured a slew of sexy, but interchangeable, women who were all styled to be indistinguishable from one another. Gretchen Wilson's, "Here For The Party," "Redneck Woman," or "All Jacked Up," are pretty rowdy, upbeat songs. Figured I'd give a break from asking for the emotional ones. ;)

There are so many great singers from the country music of the 90's. The true natural talent is better than most of the commercialized crap being aired today. These artists can sing live and tell such stories. I was never a country music fan born and raised in New Jersey until I heard Reba McIntyre and went to one of her concerts. With the violent crap that was being played on the radios and videos, I became a country fan. You need to listen to more country artists from the 90's to get a true grasp of the talent.
@BourbonCountryReacts3 жыл бұрын
I guess there was a reason for the rise of Country popularity in the 90s. As rock transitioned to "stare at your shoes and whine" (grunge), country went more traditional rock. That's kind of my take right now as I'm learning country. That Seattle grunge scene produced one of my favorite rock bands. But it also reshaped rock in a way such that I don't think it'll ever recover. - Keith
