the bass is so precise and balanced. it hits the golden spot nasty and smooth flawlessly, and its almost as catching as the lead, but staying behind it somehow. i honestly have no idea how these two mixed this so well.

I´d say that´s mainly because of the bassline. A good sidechain shouldn´t really be possible to hear. I mean, the reason why it´s used is to make the kick stand out, while you want the rest of the track to seem "unaffected" by it.
