Brooks Martin - AWBA National Champion

Meet Brooks Martin, an Air Force Veteran with a passion for bowling always wears his heart on his sleeve. His smile and infectious laugh have a positive effect on everyone he meets. He started bowling in his wheelchair 3 years ago and since then has won the American Wheelchair Bowling Association National Championship back to back years. Born and raised in WV, he volunteers for the West Virginia Paralyzed Veterans of America in his free time.
He has always been a big Brunswick fan so we invited him here to headquarters for a tour with Bill Orlikowski and for something really special.

Many of years ago at a Halloween party at a bowling alley one of the guys came in a wheelchair for a Halloween costume he was LT. Dan from Forest gump. We all tried setting in it and bowling because we had beer and it seemed lie a good idea at the time. I was about a 190 bowler back then and I was doing good to keep it out of the ditch. It is real hard when you are use to having a approach to throw setting down just was extremely hard to do. I love he is rolling that ball and not pushing it off of ramp. If something happened to me that left me unable to walk I would have to be able to adapt so I could remain a bowler. It is in my blood what can I say. I am happy this man is still able to do what he loves. That was awesome Brunswick made him family.

I've bowled on the same team as Brooks in league. Absolutely wonderful guy, I'm very happy he got this opportunity.

i am gonna have to try that way to get the 10 pins. I normally don't get that pin much unless I do a backup ball, which hurts the wrist. hopefully one day ill get to bowl against Brooks if I ever join the AWBA.

Beautiful throw! My nephew is learning a one-hand throw from his chair. His curve is pretty good but he needs more force and pin action.

any advice Iam open to my average is only a 157 in the chair be for I lost my leg I was a 188 it kills me to have dropped that much. I hope this year I iwll be able to bowl on my prosthetic leg

Its been a year how are you doing with the prosthetic now? I hope you are able to keep doing what you love, Bowling is just such a fun game that relies on your own skill and mental game and nothing else.

I have been in a chair for 6 month now. I did not let it stop me from bowling on league.I think I will try his way move more to the right. I have to move all the way left because of the break. we will see what happens

As long as the ft wheels don't cross the line, it doesn't matter where the ft part of the chair is. FYI...unless you're just kidding then carry on
