@@glorysengo6289 Definitely not. Not because it was bad, it was the best of the soaps, but because they would destroy it today with woke crap. It ended with dignity and escaped a terrible fate that the others haven't.

I'm absolutely devastated that the 'Brooksidefan' channel has been taken offline, I used to love watching all of the old Brookside episodes, especially the ones from 1996. I hate all of these stupid copyright rules!

Yeah me too. It was great being able to watch all those episodes from the 90s. Sadly wont be able to anymore.

Well Brookside Close channel has episodes from 1996.

Everyone agrees that the classic soap opera scene is when its too two feisty, gobby women going at each other verbally and physically. This dates back as far as 1960 when Ena and Elsie were fighting in black and white Corrie.
@shanefolan4 жыл бұрын
it would have been funnier and more dramatic had they been more physical, that's what let the scene down-it was too verbal but should have had them rolling on the ground.Look at Gail and Aileen in 2004 fight-they did it much better.

I knew this was 1996 before I read the year! Bev's blouse was EVERYWHERE that summer also in lime green, they were always in the fashion spreads in Sugar and Bliss mags usually paired with hipsters or an a-line button up mini skirt, also in citrus, would hazard a guess hers was the Miss Selfridge one not the market stall one

Having followed Brookside for several years every Saturday afternoon my wife and I were disappointed when the TV show was discontinued because like all soap operas, they have many separate interesting story lines, based the life of various individuals and families, which were educational for family viewing of all ages. Unfortunately, Saturday afternoon Omnibus edition was preferred than the evening episodes so no bout the weekly rating dropped below average to continue with the show.
@Onmysheet4 жыл бұрын
Channel 4 kept changing the time and day schedule, as it was no longer on fixed prime time by moving it to Saturday afternoons. Whoever was in charge of channel 4 at the time just wanted rid.

Brookside kind of shot itself in the foot in its later years by blowing up everything every 5 minutes or when the writers got bored. By the time the eleventh thing burnt down or someone got beat up, nobody cared anymore.

I loved Jackie Corkhill on Brookie she was brilliant. Fiercly protective of her family and always defending them. The episode where she threw out the guy who attacked her daughter was a powerful scene.

@shanefolan917510 ай бұрын
I was a kid watching this and never picked up on how camp Jimmy was but now watching it as an adult I totally see it haha. I'm gay man myself so 0 homophobia here. Having said that, him and the actress who played Jackie had such great chemistry together you actually believed they were married as they were such a believable and natural couple. You actually forget they were acting because they just bounced each other so brilliantly on screen.

Jackie and Jimmy were great then-loveable rogues who balanced both humour and drama brilliantly but in their later years, both characters were ruined. The writers lost all idea of how to write them and they were a duo-Jimmy just didn't work with her gone.
@Onmysheet4 жыл бұрын
When Jimmy's bipolar began he was never the same character again. He became a shadow of his former self, because of bad character development.
@shanefolan4 жыл бұрын
@@Onmysheet yes agreed, he was better when he was the lovable scally. In his later years they ruined him-the mental health story for him didn't work and Jackie's lesbian story was dreadful too and was really jump the shark moment for the show,even Sue Jenkins criticised that story and criticised the direction the show in its later years.

GBH? Bev's head is warped. All Jackie did was slap her one in the mush, and that melted Snowflake is moaning as if she had her cheek busted. She's lucky she's just got slapped. Jackie will protect her daughter even from someone who brags about a blouse worth 20 quid, but was less than that.

1:46 - "You cow. That cost me twenty quid". "Twenty quid? You were robbed, love. I've got better quality dusters!". Just like Coronation Street, the humour in Brookside was great. A shame that EastEnders never grasped that concept.
@shanefolan4 жыл бұрын
EastEnders does have great humor-you just have to look for it more. It's more subtle.
