How To Install 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma FENDER FLARES!

Time to make the truck a little more aggressive! In today's video I get to install a part I have never done before! Adding some new fender flares to the tacoma that I bought from Amazon!! These are about 1/4 the cost of a name brand company like Bushwacker, but they don't look any different to me aside from some cosmetic differences and the hardware used. With all the matte colors I have on the truck, plastidipping them definitely matched and I think they came out really good! Now all I need to do is change out the wheels/tires for something a bit more aggressive and I should have a pretty good stance! The installation is pretty straight forward, if you didn't plan on painting them, it makes it a much easier "plug and play" just swapping them out. I also decided to fix some of the vinyl wrap on the bed which took a little bit more time. But aside from the changes that I made, it's very easy and can be knocked out with basic tools!

overall not a fan of the new fender flares, but mainly because I don't like the look of all the "bolts" along the outside of it. I wish they were smooth like the stock ones. Plastidipping helps I support

I believe there were only 2, maybe a third one hiding up there, but the adhesive will help a lot as well.

Hello, Like to video very much great job. I have a Tacoma SR which comes with no flares at all like the SR5 and would like to add fender flares like these as well, I watched the section several time for the front drivers installation. If I am seeing this correctly you are not using the old fender flare clips at all, is this correct? All that this flare is mounting to is the supplied bracket and several other OEM location screws. Since this video is so close to two years old do they still look good? Have you had any issues with them? Do you have a suggested retailer you purchase from with a discount code? Are there any issues at all during installation that you can remember? Thanks in advance...

These flares still used some of the factory holes to attach. The main bracket though, was the large piece I showed connecting the middle of the fender to the truck. But not all of the clips lined up. I took these off a long time ago, because they were just too bulky and I figured for the price I would try them out, but honestly never liked them. Back to the stock flares right now. I don't have any retailers to suggest to you, these were the cheapest ones I could find, and the install is pretty easy and straight forward!

I would use plastidip! This coating was already, but I recoated my factory flares with black plastidip and they look better than before!

I really like this look!!!!! Your truck is way cool. I bought a new 2019 Tacoma Access Cab SR 4X4 in January 2019. I had to go with the SR version due to money limitations. However, I really love this truck in 4X4 and it has a long bed 6 foot. Since my truck did not come with any form of Fender Flairs, I'm looking at maybe a set like you purchased. Congrats on the purchase! It has been a fun truck and you will love it for sure!! I actually just took these off the truck and recently put my stock ones back on! These was were ok, but very bulky looking in my opinion, they were fun to have on for awhile, but there were gaps between them and the paint due to the material and not being completely custom made for the truck. Other brands were around $400-500 which I didn't want to spend, but these were nice for the price. Thanks for watching and subbing!!

So I just purchased these flares after seeing how they look in this video but I wanted to get your take on being able to add rear mud flaps; I just upgraded my rims and tires however it seems they’re kicking up a lot of stuff near my black-coated exhaust tip! Thanks for the support! You would have to modify the flare or the mudflap for it to work. Most of the time aftermarket flares are not compatible with flaps. Shouldn't bee too difficult tho

I have 2017 offroad tacoma crazy thing is you can not remove the inner wheel well mud flap liner till the outside trim is taken off first being there are flat fender pins that hold the liner on that the outside trim lip edge covers them all.

Listen to me bro! I bought the same fender flares last December and that weather strip they give you doesn’t have the adhesive on it. I took mine off in June and because there was no adhesive dirt and grit got in between the flare and paint and totally ruined my paint. Some down to the metal some I could buff out. I’m telling you this to warn you. I have the Trd sport in the same color so I had a choice to make so I ordered wider wheels and I’m going to put double sided tape on them so it doesn’t happen again.

i have been asking around to the Taco owners about Fender Flares, Now, I get it if you have 33 or big tires, those flairs look decent but I can't see to find one similar to the stock model because I only have 265 -65R 17 tires. I plastic dipped the flares but it gave me a better perspective on the color of black instead of white, and wanted to try to go ahead and replace the white one to black. Can you offer any suggestions on where to locate a pair of black ones, I have sent an email to one company on there product. I don't think without bigger tires any kind would look good , it would just look out of place or dis proportioned.

They should hopefully hold up well! The rear bumper caps I plastidipped about 1 year ago and have zero issues with them, so these should do fine, but if anything happens I'll make an update on them.

It should! I believe the body style is the same, just make sure up underneath you have the bolt holes for them to line up! Also note, put ppf underneath so these flares don't dig into the paint!

I'm finally upgrading from 2010 Tacoma to a 2021 TRD Off Road. Wondering if current flares would fit... Plus did you use any sealant on the top of the new flares? Or do the fasteners hold it tight in place?

Oh nice, you'll love the upgrade! I didn't use anything for the top of these ones, just the stock bolt locations underneath. So there is a slight gap, and that's just from the mold of these not being exactly perfect. I paid about $100 so you get what you pay for, compared to the others that are about $400. I'll be putting my stock ones back on I think.

I’ve used plastidip and have had great and long lasting results, but the flares are usually a longterm installment. Why did you prefer dip over a flat black paint while the flare was removed. The dip looks amazing in your truck but off-roading and constant washing rubs it off. Any updates with your truck on your flares?

Plastidip was so much easier on the plastic than paint would have been! I had no issues with it coming off or pealing. I hand wash my truck so I could control the pressure on the flares and still nothing! I have since gone back to the stock flares because these were just too bulky. I never really liked them and didn't know they'd be this bulky.

Hmm, is it a newer tacoma? I haven't seen many without them that's for sure. Check if under the wheel well it has the bolt holes for them and you should be able to easily put them on, but I'm not 100% on that.

Gotcha! You could always paint them, or plastidip them. If you do enough coats, plastidip can look really good and it's removable if you don't like it! I know they are hard to find!

Just know that you need to buy some clear PPF to put a strip between the flare and the paint, it will help to project the paint of your truck!!

Yup! Some fender flares are actually riveted in place. But most are fakes.

This is an awesome video. Aside from that the volume needs to be adjusted. I had to ride the volume button constantly. I had to turn up the volume when you speak and turn the volume down when the music comes back on again. Again great video!

​@@purpskurp8737 Personally I am ok with it because I don't notice it hardly at all and I love the Tacomas. It really only happens on the highway if you are constantly going up and down hill, it's mainly downshifting going up hill. I fixed that a little with the pedal commander and don't notice so I don't think it's a huge deal. Test drive one on the highway to get a feel for how you like it! It's an awesome truck for sure!

Does the Plasti-dip hold up to debris flying up from the tires?

Yea, I don't have any issues with that, even the plasti-dip on the rear bumper has held up and that's been on for at least 1 year now. 3 or 4 coats usually gives it a good layer that can also be peeled off too.

Hi I recently got similiar fender flares you installed in this video for my tacoma. I got them installed but there is a gap between the body and the flare itself is it there any way to fix this?

I had the same issue, it's just the way they were molded or how they were in the box during shipping, I never got it to close and just had to leave it until I decided to put the stocks back on. I tried adhesive, but that didn't work either.
