Ali is definitely an amazing MC and an amazing talent. I've been a fan since watching him on Scribble Jam battling Eyedea but I have to say the gospel has been way too heavy for me personally I don't really feel beliefs need to be preached in records. In the US, artistic talent and marketability are sort of on the same spectrum for some reason. The loyal fans of Brother Ali, Aesop Rock, and Sage Francis would probably argue they are among the best, but the mainstream culture says it's Eminem, Kendrick, and those kinda guys because they make the money. Things more focused on modern rap culture are interested in the new guys mumbling garbage about eating pills. Rap culture interested in actual lyracism and composition has been cornered into a tiny niche for like, music nerds. It's pretty sad.
