Ali is definitely an amazing MC and an amazing talent. I've been a fan since watching him on Scribble Jam battling Eyedea but I have to say the gospel has been way too heavy for me personally I don't really feel beliefs need to be preached in records. To each their own though, it's his art and his message, I'm just not a fan of it. NF is deep rooted christian and he manages to make really good music without the need to preach his beliefs on us.

I was just wondering about that line. What does he mean by that? See, I'm from sweden, so I'm thinking that my perspective of american hip hop might be far off from what's actually going on over there. Is Brother Ali really not considered highly ranked within hip hop media in the US?
@Turdsplosion6 жыл бұрын
@@magnusnordstrom3927 he is considered underground in the US, or a "backpack rapper" which is a term coined to marginalize rappers who actually rap about things. In the US, artistic talent and marketability are sort of on the same spectrum for some reason. The loyal fans of Brother Ali, Aesop Rock, and Sage Francis would probably argue they are among the best, but the mainstream culture says it's Eminem, Kendrick, and those kinda guys because they make the money. Things more focused on modern rap culture are interested in the new guys mumbling garbage about eating pills. Rap culture interested in actual lyracism and composition has been cornered into a tiny niche for like, music nerds. It's pretty sad.
@magnusnordstrom39276 жыл бұрын
Goddamn, that is sad. Guess there is a massive contrast between current hip hop narrative and my youtube feed. Probably won't change much when these mumble rap hyping kids grow up and become an even stronger commercial target group with more dispensable income, either.

if you greaduate from the first grade, there is no point in ever going back and saying who the best first grader was. a whole bunch of guys in rhymesayers, strange famous, strange music.. etc are WAY beyond that first grade mention. you guys are all in college bout to grab the masters degree now where the rest of the industry stuck either in their toddler years mumbling, their pre teens bragging and going through puberty, and the edgy teens who think theyre unique.. being brought down to their level just so you could be compared aint exactly what you want brother ali. there's a lot of talent out there, alot undiscovered and a lot of that talent also means a fuck ton to people. when people speak about brother ali it's damn near always in reverence and respect. that's far greater than any comparison to some dude that has fame but damn near no respect behind his name.

I agree but you gotta know this is their career and it's like grinding in a company for 20 yrs getting paid minimum wage and then watching a young goof come in and becoming CEO. Money isn't the main goal but it'd probably be nice to see a portion of those stacks.

I feel you @AN G. I also feel what the OP was saying, and it ain't about the money. But if artists were paid or were making what they deserve based on their actual talent? I realize music is subjective and not everybody likes the same shit...but I also don't care about that lol. 99% of the shit on the radio is just that.. *SHIT* ! It's just a travesty how flipped the industry is, what is popular, and what is considered "good" these days. Most, if not all, of the artists on Rhymesayers, among many other "underground" artists and labels, ought to have multimillion dollar record deals and make enough where after a couple decades in the game they could retire and live comfortably for the rest of their lives. I think what's popular and what is on the radio is a reflection of the state of intelligence in America and the world overall nowadays. Very sad.
