My little sister was obsessed with Koda (we in fact named our third dog after him.) I was excited to see the part where Kenai realizes that he’s a bear and screams. But I thought the whole film was great. All the other kids that went to see it let out a big, “OOOOOOOOHHHHHH!” at the transformation scene. It was glorious!

I just don't get how Nostalgia Critic hates Phil Collins. I LOVE his Disney soundtrack songs, they evoke powerful feelings when combined with the beautiful orchestration. It's just hilarious that NC hates him kinda for no reason XD
@jemofthe80s185 жыл бұрын
I know, right?! I SO don't get him half the time! I COMPLETELY agree with you about his Disney songs, they're my favorites and are so beautifully well-done! This one, I can't BELIEVE they didn't use it, but I actually think it works better with Tarzan since he was part of the gorilla family and thus saw the world through their eyes, then when he discovered other people like him the gorillas were able to see the world through THEIRS:) Two worlds, one family:):)
@tny17575 жыл бұрын
It's not Phil Collins himself, it's how it changes the Musical Format from "The Characters express their feelings and thoughts through songs" to "Phil Collins sings about how the characters are feeling through ambiguous songs" You can't argue how the Songs from Tarzan aren't good or classic, but it doesn't change how it's an outside presence singing about the events of the film. Like in the Context of Tarzan and Brother Bear, WHO IS PHIL COLLINS supposed to be in the film? The answer is nobody. It's the same as Elton John in The Road to El Dorado, he doesn't play a role where the singer is in the film but he sings all the songs. Look at all the other renaissance films, the characters sing the songs in the film, in Tarzan and Brother Bear, Phil sings them. There's a video called "The Problem with Tarzan" that explains this better than I could.
@jemofthe80s185 жыл бұрын
@@tny1757 Although I love the way the songs sound and how they make me feel, in my opinion songs NOT sung by characters really only WORK as part of the movies if it's established from the start that the person singing IS actually a character who is telling the movie as a story to other characters. Then the characters within the story singing are the narrator PLAYING them so that what we're seeing is what the characters having the movie told to them are just hearing...you get it. But yeah, the way Tarzan is done is NOT like that, but it so easily COULD have been:(
@tny17575 жыл бұрын
@@jemofthe80s18 Exactly, if it was like a character's inner thoughts, then it works. Look at "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" It starts as Timon and Pumbaa singing and it ends with them, implying the middle is still them. Let's say in Tarzan, Son of Man and Strangers Like Me was Tarzan's inner thoughts, it would work. But it's not.
@jemofthe80s185 жыл бұрын
@@tny1757 I KNOW, right?! That would've been PERFECT, actually exactly how I always WANTED it! Tarzan himself is already such a neat character but they dropped the ball so badly not letting us be in his head like that! It totally works for me as inner thoughts even more than a narrator, because then you're REALLY fleshing the character out because it's just inside their heads:)

When the comment section is full of people raging against "progress" and such. "See from all sides" What part of that escapes you? This isn't a song about how some people ruined the world, or about how evil conservatism is, or how some people are disgusting or beneath you. It's not about nostalgia, or even about nature, really. It's about peace and unity.

I have grown up with the Finnish dubbed version of this movie, and seen it in its original form not until I was a teen. And now after listening to the original version of this song by Tina Turner, I think I like Collins' version much more. His voice and interpretation are so wonderful (as can be seen from Tarzan for example), and he brings completely other kind of feel to the song. So I hope they would've put this version into the film instead. Tina is a wonderful singer, I am not saying she isn't. But just for me, Phil Collins' rendering of Great Spirits brings me far closer to the same vibe I got from the Finnish version as a kid. Love this song!

You can find it as the music video on the bonus features of the DVD, but yes, unlike Phil's extended version of "You'll Be In My Heart" which is in the credits for "Tarzan, this isn't featured in the film. What is a shame is that this version is considered a [bonus] track for the soundtrack. It's much like how I wish they did a special edition re-release, as they did for Beauty and the Beast in 2001-2. They incorporated "Human Again" into it. I really do wish, even if it is as part of a credit roll, they re-release "Brother Bear" for its 20 year anniversary next year, with this version of the song included. Or at least re-release the soundtrack with the song included. I have nothing against Tina's, but it does hold better to the movie's message, and not to be "woke" or political, but it is definitely even more poignant now as much as it was when initially released.

Humanity is slowly dissolving soon "progress" will go so far that people's feet will not support their own weight. People live in lands they were not evolved to live in, you have Europeans in hot places who have to where sun block and africans who live in europe and aren't getting enough sun, anyone who even tries to explain this is a "neo nazi" or a "White, black, or asian, supremacist". What exactly is the cause for all these problems, well the answer is quite simple: Christianity, Islam, and jeudeaism. Wherever these abrahamic religions go they burn the culture, they corrupt the culture, and they destroy all the records of those cultures. All ancient religions are true but they only apply to you if they were practiced by your ancestors.

The main theme of Brother Bear: Empathy. Who else agrees with me?
@alking76552 жыл бұрын
A theme of learning how empathy and love are powerful forces, but also the wisdom in understanding that our actions impact and affect others. As this version of the song states: "Teach our children to look deeper than the surface; to see the world through another's eyes. To be blind beyond yourself is to look but not see, and knowing much is not enough to be wise."

Why didn’t they use this version in the movie?
@Uncrustabruh6 жыл бұрын
Lol most of the comments are people arguing over how wrong the other is. Just take a hint from the song and, "See from all sides!" I know that no ones going to ever really get along and that life isn't fair, but that doesn't mean you should be assholes to each other and that doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to make life as fair as possible for all people; not just yourself. Strive towards a better understanding of yourself, and you'll in turn help others.

The lyrics of this version are more meaningful than the Turner version. It reflects the overall theme of the movie better.

Yes and no. The Phil Collins version was used in the trailers, but it used the lyrics from the Tina Turner version. Which implies Collins wrote the song.
