Brother JX2517 Sewing Machine

Hey thanks for posting, I purchased this sewing machine yesterday from a thrift store for $28.50. It works fine so far, I'm viewing YT videos on how to use it so I can be up to speed. My old machine was about 30 years old, a Montgomery ward metal body & it was running really heavy when I donated it few years ago.

Just bought this machine at a thrift store. Was playing and it had a metal bobbin already in it and not sewing the greatest. Took out the metal bobbin and put in a plastic bobbin and it works so much better. Might have to ask a few more questions Jacqueline about this machine as I bought it to teach young learners.

This is a good sewing machine for young and older people to use. Yes, this Sewing takes plastic bobbins.

Thank you very much for the great tutorial! I recently purchased this machine because my singer all-in-one because my pedal Jack that plugs into the machine broke can you possibly tell me how I need to fix that. It is there an aftermarket foot pedal that does not actually plug into the machine

These one have small plastic plate you set on top of the feed dogs. This way its like if the were dropped.

Why does the bobbin thread seem loose, and bunch up, even with the tension up on 6-7 on straight stitch? Also the bobbin thread doubles up quite often. It is threaded correctly, and everything is clean, with no thread or dust. What am I overlooking? I have the JX2517, and so does my daughter. Hers does it worse than mine. Mine has been used very little.

I have checked and double checked the bobbin and the thread path. edit: I think I figured it out, after rethreading a few times just to see if I missed something, and looking very closely. The thread kept coming out of the groove by the bobbin. I bent the tip of it up, just slightly, & now it seems to be working. I don't believe it was going in all the way. Thanks for your help. It is my daughter's machine, so she may have bent it down somehow.

I need to backtrack a bit. The threads are still a bit loose at the 9 setting. Very easy to remove. I have an identical machine(I bought them both at the same time). On my machine, the the threads are tight at the 4-5 setting, and are a bit difficult to remove them. Same spool of thread, same bobbin thread. She has used her machine more than I have. Mine has hardly been used at all. The above comment, of what I did, helped some, but it still doesn't seem quite right. Zig-zag stitches look OK on top, but don't look right on the bottom. I'll have to get my magnifying glass out, and see if there is a difference in the two, in the bobbin area and all along the thread path. it just occurred to me that I should swap the bobbin & tray, to see if that makes a difference.

@@swmovan When was the last time it was oiled and do you have a manual? Because in the manual there is a troubleshooting in the back of the manual.

@@JacquelineJaroffaith The manual says not to oil the machine. It would have to be disassembled to do so as one would oil an older machine. Nothing in the troubleshooting helps. I may try to oil what I can, & see if that helps.

Where can I buy a zipper foot that is compatible with this exact sewing machine? I can't seem to find one in order to sew on snap tapes. Thanks in advance.

Some to when this happens, the Sewing machine needs a good cleaning. Needs a bit of oil around the bobbin area. Check to see if you have any Threads around the up take lever.

Hi there! Just got this machine from a thrift store, but for some reason it seems like the bobbin is not loading? Like I put it up top and load it like the instructions on the top of the machine, but when I press the pedal it spins for two seconds and then the bobbin holder continues to spin but doesn’t thread the bobbin. Any suggestions? 😢

Sounds like the tire inside the sewing machine rewind is broken. You will need to take it to a sewing machine mechanic. To help you.

I have this machine got it new for 130 dollars but it sews terribly sometimes itskips stitches and also when I cut in the end after sewing I get 3 threads sometimes 4 instead of 2 no idea why
