@@KN4LXD For me, I had to do about 30 paper towels with windex lol took forever but it did eventually work for anyone out there with a major blockage in their printer head.

Thank you so much!!!! Every other tip was just to use the "clean" setting, but I knew I needed to physically get in there and manually clean the print head, but I didn't know how. Cleaning with Windex helped get the build up off, which allowed the clean mode to do its job.

Exactly why I dislike color printers. My laser Brother that only prints black has lasted years and years without any kind of cleaning whatsoever, and the ink is cheaper than Inkjet and lasts forever. Sure, there are some spots on the sides of the printed paper but it still works as it should.
@KN4LXD9 ай бұрын
I agree! B&W printer are generally more reliable. Less thing to break and no "yellow ink low" when you only want to print a B&W copy of something.

I have a question. I have a Brother MFC-J5520DW and I tried cleaning the nozzles by plugging a tube with a syringe onto the intake port. My Cyan was the one that was the most clogged and when I pressed the syringe not much was happening, only a tiny bit of Cyan was coming out onto the paper towel, then all of the sudden all the water from the syringe started squirting out of the Yellow intake port while it was plugged into the Cyan port. I played with it a little bit then water started coming out of the Magenta and Black ports... Is that normal, or did I brake something by giving it more pressure?
@KN4LXDАй бұрын
I don't think that's normal for the water to flow out on all 4 ports. When cleaning it via a tube and syringe, it would have some ink push back into the syringe, but only on the ink port that you're cleaning.

Sorry for taking so long to respond. Do you still see the paper towel anywhere near the print head?

what else can I use besides Windex? I don't any at the moment

It depends on what you have at home. Either IPA or vinegar with distilled water is fine.

How about using vinegar?
@KN4LXD6 ай бұрын
Vinegar is fine, but you probably need to dilute it with distilled water.

is alcohol ok?
@KN4LXD10 ай бұрын
Alcohol is OK, but I would only use it as a last measure. Often times, Windex (and printer built-in cleaning cycles) is enough to clear out the clogged printhead.

The print head repeatedly wants to retract to the far right position and then will not move. How do I get it to move freely back and forth?
@KN4LXD8 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late response! You could put in actual paper and try printing something in the best quality (so the printer head will move slower). And when it says "Printing", open the cover to see where the print head is. If it is moving to the left, unplug the printer so that it isn't locked to the starting position. If you need any more help, you could comment back and I will try to see what the problem is.
