Brother MFC-J7630, MFC-J6530, J6930, J6530 & MFC-J6920 Printhead Purge

This is for when the usual printhead clean just does not work. It's possible this will work on other printers. Press and hold the Home button, press and hold the 4th blank field. Press *,2,8,6,4 then 7,6,3 when the maintenance notice comes up. Follow the rest of the video to see how to purge. Sometimes you have to do 7 or 8 of these. If after the test print shows a bad result then repeat 7,6,3 onwards. Look at the comments, some people have put in comments about other printers too!

This worked FLAWLESSLY on my J6920DW. Unbelievable how many printhead cleaning cycles I did to no avail.... After ONE power purge the troubles colour had every single inkjet functioning perfectly. Saved me so much time with doing a manual inkjet clean, thankyou so much!!!

Tried Brother online support without success. Chatted with support rep, without success except for suggestion to send printer in. Talked with local tech repair - either they didn't work on printers or their base charge was $100 to look at it. Did a google search and found this video. My printer is now working great! Until seeing the new printouts, I had not realized that the print quality had been gradually degrading for awhile. I have a MFC-J6920 that is only 4 years old. THANK YOU! You're a legend!!!! Air blockage and Cyan ink blockage.... Major.... Fixed with this with 3 or 4 cycles of the Cyan.... FIXed!!! Thank you.

Brother MFC J6710 DW Press MENU once, then *2864 on the right side keypad. Now the display shows Maintenance. (and fax copy etc starts blinking) To purge enter 763 on the keypad, the display now shows Power__P All. With left or right arrow key you can select the ink color. {760 purge after head replace, 761 single purge, 762 normal purge, 763 power purge, 764 initial init purge. 760 and 764 cost more ink} Start the purge by pushing start mono (most right button row) After the job is done you can leave Maintenance by entering 99 on the keypad, the printer now restarts. When in maintenance other numbers give other maintenance funtions. (if not the desired one you can go back by pressing Stop) 11 print out the internal configuration of the printer 32 sound check 35 print out dial log list 99 leave maintenance There are a lot of maintenance functions like calibrating the scan area, so be carefull what you doing when experimenting with trying other numbers.....

This worked on my 6920 printer. After 763 hit Mono Start. After the cycle is over hit 763 again, then Mono Start again. After you have run a few cycles of this hit 99 to get back to the Home screen and run a test print. Had to do 763--Mono Start 6 times before black was cleaned fully. Thanks for a great tip!

Wow, i thought I had to buy special fluid and do acrobatics with my printer in a last ditch effort to salvage it. Then I found this video. I can't believe it. I'm like sharionreis5374 like the previous post and was stuck at the same problem for the same model. Other than the fact that it runs on ink, the printer is well designed. It prints fast and scans big. I just wish ink doesn't dry, clog or do all these things that give consumers grief. A million thanks!

I have the MFC-6930DW. This does work. Tried 3 times normal cleaning for a cyan problem and Cyan was getting worse everytime. Third time there was no cyan on the testpage left and Magenta went out. With your method it was cleaned in one go and no other ink used, testpage is perfect now. Just need to buy another magenta now after the 3 times normal cleaning.

Sidenote! I thought this method would only use one colour cartridge, as I put a cleansing cartridge in Cyan and I selected cyan in the menu. But apparently it also used magenta and yellow ink so...all my ink is gone now except black! However, I think that it worked because I noticed that the cyan cleansing cartridge is finally empty and when I did the regular cleansing method several times, it just stayed full, so there was no movement. That's why I did the cleansing 10 times, a bit of an overkill, I know, but I thought it would just use the blue cleansing cartridge. Anyway, thank you for sharing. I have to order some ink now, as I can't do a nozzle test print yet. I have a Brother-MFC-6930DW.

Thank you so much! You just saved me from throwing away a printer which suddenly refused to print black. The info from your video did the trick, after running the mono cycle 5 times on the MFC-J6920DW, everything declogged and my printouts are fine again! Note that when I selected black before "Mono Start" it felt like a much shorter cycle and did not improve much. But when I went directly for "Mono Start" after 7,6,3 it worked better...

Thanks very useful. Saves me dumping a printer that refused to clean in the normal menu. Why Brother decided to bury this proper clean function in such a hard to get at place is anyone's guess. It couldn't be because they just want to sell a new printer every couple of years surely?

I ran through the maintenance 3 or 4 times and got it working properly again. However, I do have a question, after entering 7,6,3 I couldn't run the cleaning on the colour option, I could only run the cleaning on the mono chrome. Is that normal or can you run it on colour with a different prompt? anyhow it worked I'm just curios, if you could respond to me, that would be good. During a purge, does it use up ink from the cartridges? I have a MFC-J6530DW and none of the colours are printing properly. I put a fresh set of all 4 cartridges and did some normal cleans and due to the number of cleans it has almost emptied the cartridge.
