Bobby...Great video!! As a non-quilter, I thought you did a great job on that quilt! The quilt back fabric is really nice, I like it..it's not ugly or, lol, hideous. Hand sewn binding, oi vey, what an adventure you took! WOW! When you lay out the pieces on your bed, maybe if you put a plastic drop cloth over it, when your kitty jumps up on the bed, she won't mess it up so easily....just sayin'. Wow again, the demo on the free motion foot was EXCELLENT! I had no idea how to use that foot, and was

P. S. I was going to tell you about the Teflon foot, as I have used it, and knew it was included with the attachments...glad you found it!

You are a jewel in the necklace of life...I thoroughly enjoyed your first and now your second video..do more! A proud Brother owner...I have the serger as well!

My grandma used to have a lot of sewing machines and vacuum cleaners. She had a 90 Singer, AN EARLY 90S LATE 80s serger, She had a brown Viking, an antique one, and an Ambassador, which later became mine and she also bought me a Dressmaker back in 2003. Vacuums ,she had a Filer Queen, Kirby G5, Turbo Tiger, then she got a rid of them and got an Oreck, and then I convinced her to buy a Bissell

I have a Singer that I inherited from my aunt when she died and it works really well. My grandma bought a brand new Singer in 2009 and it's the best sewing machine ever

To my knowledge all machines that have a foot pedal need to be removed if you just want to use the Start/Stop button.

Thank you for your video. I appreciate the detail in the machine review. I have a Brother 6000i and am going to upgrade my machine. I am really conflicted on what to get.LIke you said my machine makes noises like it is going to break as well. So that scares me on this machine. You mentioned Janome, I am very torn between this machine with its features and the Janome 2012 with less features but better quality. What would you recommend? I appreciate any feedback you'd like to give. Thanx!

I've been trying to find out what's the heaviest thread I can use with my PC420. I can't find the info in the manual. Any help is greatly appreciated!

What kind of thread did you use for the review? I read that if you dont use a BROTHER thread it won't do perfect stitching. THANX!

My machine arrived today -- I am terrified of setting it up! Been using vintage machines all my life so am scared of this one. But determined, especially after your video.

congrats... you needn't be scared of it at all. it's a user friendly machine that performs wonderfully... well built, too, so don't be scared of it... you aren't going to mess it up or hurt it! just take your time, read the book, and have fun!

I have a 2 1/2 yr old 420 brother. It has worked so well but I've got a problem now that has shut me down. Unfortunately I bought it offf HSN and don't have a local repair man. Don't suppose I could ask you for help. Maybe this has happened to you. Material jams. I take it apart clean it out, change needle, put it back together and it does the same thing. Any ideas

hi there.... I actually sold my PC 420 to a new quilter who needed a good deal on a quality machine, so I don't own it anymore, but I had it for years and it never gave me trouble.... have you taken the gray plastic cover off from over the bobbin and then removed the black bobbin case? Sometimes, the bobbin case can come unseated and cause problems, if you pluck it out and make sure it's in there right, it might help... you should be brushing the lint from under there on a regular basis as well, so hopefully, that process is familiar to you.... and change the needle just for good measure... good luck!

sounds like you've done most of the things I've suggested already.... when you turn the hand wheel manually, does the hook pick up the thread (can you raise the bobbin thread by turning the hand wheel)? you didn't accidentally drop the feed or lower the stitch length too much, did you? you can also take the metal stitch plate off with those two screws (use a nickel, as most screwdrivers won't fit in that space) and see if there's anything jamming the works, but that metal plate is a little tricky to put back... not impossible, but not super easy...

i agree with Sundar, the new Singers are complete junk and Brother is acutally better quality.... not quite a Bernina, Pfaff, Janome, Juki, or Viking, but still better than the junk modern Singers are...

Actually Singer machines have gone down so much in quality that they are not worth buying.

I've had no success winding the bobbin. Nasty rat nest under the shaft but no bobbin wound.
@Aleroluver

+D. Casten It's really easy... Are you putting the thread through the first two thread guides before bringing it over to the bobbin winder? (If not, you're doing something wrong)... Then stick the end of your thread through the hole on what will be the TOP of the bobbin when you place it on the bobbin winder FROM THE INSIDE OUT (not the outside in!)... then pull the thread tight and hold onto it as you start the motor to wind the bobbin... after several revolutions, you can stop the machine and cut the excess that you are holding with scissors and continue winding the bobbin the rest of the way... press the question mark button right by the screen and go to the part that shows how to wind a bobbin (using the arrow keys, then press the OK button in the middle to select)... then use the arrow keys to progress through the steps.. hopefully, that clears things up! I've had the thread somehow get under the bobbin, too when I've been winding, but it's a rare thing and easily fixed, definitely not the machine's fault when it happens to me...

This has been the worst experience of my life with a sewing machine. It does nothing but bog down, make nasty thread bunches, will not sew, and has proven to be an expensive piece of plastic junk. Mine is being shipped back to HSN. I am SO disappointed. I own many sewing machines - all vintage. Any one of them would have done the job I've spent 3 weeks trying to accomplish on this thang.
