The story of Betty Anne Waters - the woman who went to court to exonerate her brother, convicted for a murder he didn't commit - is now a major motion picture starring Hillary Swank.

This movie brought so many feelings to the surface especially in those scenes when they were kids running away together, we forget sometimes what our siblings mean to us

This movie triggers me. I was falsely arrested. Then they knew they did so, so they charged me with resisting. Why? Bc by charging me, it’ll be harder to sue. I was 36, never had a speeding ticket and was leaving the casino. Apparently there was a woman inside who was making a fruckus but I came out in a rush. What’s worse is that the cops tried to bribe me for sex. They dragged this misdemeanor on for 4 years. I spent 15k. They kept losing “discovery aka evidence.” I fired my lawyer bc he wanted me to please to an equivalent of a ticket. After I fired him, I had to get a free attorney. She was shitty and never responded to anything. The new judge told me I should be grateful for her help bc she’s had 300 cases in the past year so she knows what she’s doing. I said what? Trying to make innocent ppl plea to false charges. I filed complaints to the state bar and the ABA. My case was dropped and they settled with me. The whole thing took over my life. I felt helpless so I can only imagine what he went thru. 18 years. There’s no amount that can make up for that. Btw. The two cops are in jail. One for selling evidence and the other for SA another woman.

Id wager up to a quarter of all inmates are innocent....its a lot easier to get a conviction than you think. And its sad.

I applaud your love and devotion and the bond you had with your brother 100 percent. I think those who lied and put this man away for decades should be held accountable and should be made to suffer the inhumane shit this man had to suffer and go thru. Its obvious luck did not run in his corner or he would be alive today. You sure it was and accident? 3.4 million is a lot of money. Kenneth Waters R.I.P. and haunt those S.O.Bs that did this to you. Betty Ann Waters keep up the good work.

People like to think the justice system works perfectly. When in reality 12 jurors can be swayed in either direction the same as a presidential election. I wish people realized just how flawed our system really is...Ive seen some cases with weak, weak evidence go to conviction... its not supposed to be whether someone LIKELY did it, its supposed to be beyond a reasonable doubt because an innocent person incarerated is far worse than a guilty man walking free.

You did a fabulous job defending your brother Betty Anne I would have done the same thing for my sister's your the definition of a sister going through any length to prove your brother's innocence and make sure it doesn't happen again

@loginium Sorry, but your misunderstanding of the famous "Hot Coffee" case, is a great example of why the powers that be take advantage of people's misunderstanding of the law. Including the Waters.
