Bill always was one of my favorites. Sure, he's not the smartest, but he was loyal as hell and when Jack got kidnapped, he really cared and instantly offered his help. It was at the end when Dutch became crazy that he didn't know what to do and choose Dutch's side in the moment. Even in RDR1 at Fort Mercer, he could've easily shot John, but he just told him to piss off multiple times until John drew his gun and got shot by one of his men.

It’s funny how these are the only good reasons to not hate him I can reason with slightly is impressive. Bill is such a loose canon throughout the entire game and he is doing nothing but for himself and himself only. He antagonizes everybody throughout the entire game except sometimes Arthur [he can kick his ass], Bill barely considered helping the gang at times it’s really only because they all go somewhere; like when they go to save eagle flies he only agrees because everyone is going so he can’t be that one who doesn’t go. He laughs hysterically when his men shoot John and just liked toying with him when he ran into him in rdr1. Javier is someone who can be compared to bill in Rdr1 but he had so many great traits in Rdr2 that he was just so likable until the ending went down. He did look out for himself too siding with Dutch, even hesitating to point his gun at Arthur and John. So overall Bill is something else. Just plain dumb and that’s why most people even feel bad for him, me included. Yet he’s still interesting enough to talk about him this long that’s why he’s still a great addition to the gang and story. Still screw him though he ran past Lenny without any emotion when he got shot.

@@JackAttack-fb4jd Correct. I think it's telling in RDR2 that Hosea pretty much hated Bill. Hosea is intelligent and he prefers to make money via hucksterism; swindling people out of money in a non-violent manner. Bill is precisely the opposite...he's an idiot that can't scam anyone out of anything, so his only option when it comes to making money is violence. That was a big part of why Hosea became disillusioned with the gang during RDR2. Dutch kept bringing in more characters like Bill and Micah into the gang. "We've turned into a bunch of killers, I mean it."

Plus if you go and talk with Lenny after that encounter Arthur says something like "Bill running a gang? God save us all" and Lenny seems to agree. also, Sean is the last person who would have a serious conversation with Bill out of all people. Just look at the way Lenny touches Sean's shoulder as he leaves, they are clearly making fun of Bill. The thing is that they are also underestimating him as he eventually ends up as the leader of one of the most dangerous gangs of the USA by rdr 1.

It was hamish who was a veteran side quest. He was honestly really cool and Arthur seemed to love hanging out with him from his expressions and dialogue. He also gives you his horse when he dies. Genuinely one of the saddest deaths for any side character.

After Catherine burned in the mansion, I actually went back to visit it a couple days after and looted her body lol. But if you visit around the end of the game, you’ll notice that her body’s not there no more. I know she was kinda stuck up, a liar, and selfish, but I actually felt bad when she walked back into her burning home, and if I could, I woulda have stopped her because people can still change.

And yeah he was pretty tough, but obviously not as tough as the other gang members cuz I doubt he’d survive a gunfight and thats why he had to rely on his slyness and cunningness in order to survive. The point is, despite being a crook, he had had loyalty.

But that aint the point. He was given a choice to take the easy way out (regardless of whether they kill him or not) or take a slow and painful death through torture and he chose the latter. I see no benefit for him to choose to not rat out on the gang besides out of sheer loyalty to them.
