@peter prunty Peter, I am a vet myself. I was in the Air Force from 1965 to 1969. I never was in combat either. My overseas duty was in Iceland for 1 year. I am proud of my time in the military. I was glad to do my duty for my country.

Dear Ms, Jenkins, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to you, your family and to all who knew your brother. These mist covered mountains Are a home now for me But my home is the lowlands And always will be Some day you'll return to me Your valleys and your farms And you'll no longer burn To be brothers in arms Through these fields of destruction Baptisms of fire I've witnessed all your suffering As the battle raged higher And though they did hurt me so bad In the fear and alarm You did not desert me My brothers in arms There's so many different worlds So many different suns And we have just one world But we live in different ones Now the sun's gone to hell And the moon's riding high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But it's written in the starlight And every line on your palm We're fools to make war On our brothers in arms

Its nice to hear this perfect tribute to my brothers in arms and I agree 100% with every word and thank you so much Mark Knopfler, all the comments or at least all I read are peaceful and kind maybe bittersweet but not hateful and that's the most important thing, hatred is what is used to turn brother against brother and as president Johnson said , "war is always the same it is young men dying in the fullness of their promise, it is trying to kill a man that you don't even know well enough to hate , therefore to know war is to know there is still madness in the world". My hope is that one day there will be no more madness!! I will show respect and honour my brothers in arms that paid the ultimate price and I will not desert them but I do think the greatest honor to them would be the day no other man or woman or child would have to die as they did ever again,,,

Clemi-Chan 你的媽媽同性戀 they give me hope too!! And so many times I see people just being so horribly mean and laugh at people suffering on videos it is just makes my heart angry and sick! I wonder why people would just be so mean just because they can it's like they enjoy torturing other people, and they are so immature and childish but then I see people making comments like I see after this song and it restores my faith in humanity, and I thank you for being one of the people giving me hope, take care friend, I added you too, sincerely,, Jerry Jocoy...

John McAleese served in the British Army for a total of twenty-three years; seventeen with the 22nd British Special Air Service. He is, perhaps, best known for his pivotal role in the rescue of the hostages taken during the Iranian Embassy Siege in London, in early April of Nineteen-Eighty. There is a tribute to him on You Tube, and it features this song set to some great photographs of John, if you're interested. Great song. Absolutely timeless, accessible and relevant to all generations.

I agree with Joshua; this song is in a class all by itself. Takes me away and out of myself, drifting into another world where it is just me and the music...

We sang this at peace proms .me and my friends were in the choir and through all the pop songs we were tearing up but after this song we just felt a wave of tears of joy over us.that day we were all so happy to be friends

It is 4 am in here. I am drunk as fuck... Saturday night in parties with so many strangers but also with my brother. Different parents, unbroken bonds though... And I can clearly see that I can't like a song more than this one right here.

Being or feeling as a "brother in arms" as really little to do with war or armed conflict.... my closest friends, as well as my real 3 brothers are all my "brothers in arms"... and none of us never fought any war... But these guys, they count on each other and they count on us... it just happens that those who actually did (fight a war) did it for their country and therefore, for the people of it... you, as well as I, are their "brothers (and sisters) in arms".... and this song is just wonderfully reminding me of that.

I have never been to war, but I will fight to the death for our flag and give the glory to God for our freedom. Instead of fighting for gang territory, why don't we pray for peace, even though our world is going insane. Raise our hands and bow our heads and ask God's forgiveness for in the end that's all we have. Beautiful song by such a talented artist. I'm getting off of my soapbox now. God bless our soldiers and our brothers in arms.

This song reverberates on so many levels. It means different things to different people at different times. Today, August 2019, the most poignant verse to me is this: "We're fools to make war/ On our brothers in arms." It's time to end the divisions and stop seeing our neighbor and fellow citizens as the enemy.

i always feel sad when i hear this song because i think of all the solider,s young men women and children who lost their lives in the last two world wars... and as much as i hate to say it i don't believe there will ever be peace on Earth until Our Lord Himself comes down from Heaven and fights the war to end all wars... Praise be to The Lord Our God The Father The Son and The Holy Spirit (The One God) now and forever and ever amen. as it will be he and he alone who will bring peace to the world when the final battle is won
