She's definitely got good taste in modern/rock/folk music and hearing your comment saying you like him because she does is great but deapdown you will love him as the years go by you, because his music will live forever and unfortunately we don't. I'm in my 70s now and have admired his talent with the guitar found out that he can actually sing from his heart and compose songs and music almost at will, all this from dire straits till now. I've followed him only via records cds and now utube which by the way is magical, and never seen or heard him perform live. I worked in the coalmines, tunnelling, and factory maintenance from 1961 till 2015, and never seemed to have enough spare cash to warrant buying a concert ticket, there was always a bill of some sort that was more important. I grew up in the Newcastle area and had friends that knew him personally and they all spoke well of him as one of the guys. His band of utterly talented musicians are his equal to their own instruments and station within it, everyone of them say he is a perfectionist but never tells the band members how to achieve this perfection, they all do their part in their own mind within the music within the band to achieve the sound we hear. Mark Knopfler is the star and his relentless search for perfection is obvious as it is performed brilliantly through all of the rest of his band. Listen. .listen and enjoy , I just lose myself.

He missed some notes ^^ so what? it is live ;) speaking about the things he does with his guitar during that song in 13 minutes, one wrong move from a guy who is already god damn fucking old does not really matter ;) I think, it makes him more likable because you see, that he is getting old, is not as fast as he once was and he still plays tour after tour to make his fans happy ;) I mean like... he is still human and humans do make mistakes ^^ Metallica's lead guitarist makes mistakes in nearly every song, doesn't make him less of a great musician ;)

2 absolute monster solo's in one song, it keeps building throughout the song and when I'm listening my way towards the end of the second solo I'm literally super pumped up with pure joyful energy and I can't stop smiling, like the old saying from my country, I'm paraphrasing here because I'll have to translate: "If I didn't have ears, my smile would've encircled my head"- What and absolute master piece, one of many from MK. And keep in mind this song starts close to 90 minutes into the concert after he had done a pretty high energy, for his age, version of Sultans of Swing and a 9 minutes (more or less) version of Speedway at Nazareth. Mark was 66 years old back then God bless him.

In 1985 Dire Straits was probably the most popular band in the World ! Mark makes people smile all over the Universe. Yet his concern was never for fame, fortune or popularity. His entire career devoted to story telling and making the most wonderful music possible. No words can do him justice --- no words can describe how much his music has meant to so many of us. The final guitar solo, beginning at about 9:20 is as good and as original as any guitar solo ever IMHO.

One of the most important things about Mark is his genius in writing songs that have meaning to him. My all-time favorite song from all time and all types of music, as an ex-service member, is Brothers in Arms which he wrote witnessing a soldier dying in his friends arms from a wound in the Falklands war. All his songs (I think more than 120) have a personal meaning to him and his playing transmits those feeling to the world - pure GENIUS.
