"Mandrake Root" is a song by the British rock band Deep Purple. It was originally featured on their debut studio album titled "Shades of Deep Purple," which was released in 1968. The song is known for its psychedelic and bluesy elements, characteristic of Deep Purple's early musical style.
The lyrics of "Mandrake Root" are suggestive and often interpreted as having a mystical or psychedelic theme. The song showcases the band's musical versatility and experimentation, combining different genres like hard rock and blues. Deep Purple's early work, including "Mandrake Root," contributed to the development of the hard rock and heavy metal genres.

Even though this is from their first album, it's being performed by the 'Mark II' line-up.

WHAT DID THE GUITAR DO TO RITCHIE BLACKMORE ?!!!! Hmmm...I almost de-clicked the thumbs-up, I did shake my head in disbelief !!! The guitar THAT VERY ONE - 1) killed his very sweet Mum and Dad. It was just after tea-time, early '68, April I think, before Ritchie's birthday. Ritchie was home to check on his parents, as he was such a good lad- when it rose up, out of its case. With little warning, it plugged itself in to the accompaning Marshall stacks- our Ritchie barely fit them in the parlor, they occupied the den and encroached on the dining room. His Dad was put-out, and grumbled under his breath- all nice like, cuz thats how good & proper English folks are. His Mum however, chastised the olde geezer, and sent him to the local for a quick pint immediately, despite his mere hint of a wimper. In fact she advised him to stop at the Wimpy Bar thereafter. But it was too late. 2 hours later, 2 biscuits in, it struck. Before the Earl Grey had a chance to cool, Vibrato bar had done the business to his Dad and Missus. 2) Almost slashed the milk man, the next morning ! That is the power, and strength of that guitar, sir- and don't forget it. That !!, is an almost true story, right down to the Wimpy Bar. I subscribed, too. Cuz y'all are fans- not cuz your 'Shades of.." has the wrong cover.. Be careful though, or you could be in line. The Last in Line, needless to say..

Blackmore was hell of a guitarist and a showman. My all time favourite.

It's very heavily edited, and not really one to watch for the musical content, but it's fun all the same. That said, it does have Blackmore demonstrating that more exotic scales were part of his playing even at this stage. Later on, Blackmore tended to save the abuse for his backup guitars and the levels of destruction increased accordingly.
