The mom was so relieved to find out it was a joke. Even it's not real I feel bad for the dude. When I lived in Japan I've seen some black men with Japanese GFs and wives and they were happy as can be. I grew up with an open minded family so its always struck me as weird how some people really feel that uncomfortable around someone because of their race.
@606aichan7O72 жыл бұрын
I grew up in a family that likes to think they're open minded when in reality they're rly close minded and hypocritical (also I swear there's some kind of Hong Kong superiority complex going on w/ 'Hong Kongers' esp. since there's more HK immigrants here in the UK now);; My mom's friend, I can't remember if she said she had some kind of bad experience, but she just finds anyone w/ a black skin colour to be "scary" (realised that idk if it was just black ppl or black men, but it seemed to be more of a fear towards black men from what I understand) I guess stereotypically black men tend to be larger and taller, but I've also met/seen/know black ppl who are rly short, so I wondered if it's just because the black ppl she saw looked more intimidating.. But no it rly confuses me that just the skin can cause that kind of reaction

Then again most countryside or rural areas in the world are. I'm sure it exists, but the chances of it happening I think would be extremely rare, let alone someone acting prejudice in front of you since most Japanese people aren't the confrontational type and generally welcoming. Definitely very safe and for sure nowhere near as bad as in the United States. 2 of my coworkers were black men, one from the US and the other from the UK and they've never had a problem in Japan while we were there, the guy from the US actually liked living in Japan so much he married a Japanese woman and opened his own English school. The guy from the UK, however, did live in Mainland China for a while before working in Japan and he did mention he experienced some prejudice there.

I’m talking about the fact that in korea you don’t introduce a romantic partner in such a manner as they did in this video. It’s outrageous. Also, korea is very little exposed to black people, or white people, on their day-to-day life. So, her initial shock is very natural. More than that, she had every right to be unhappy about him considering the rude way in which he introduced himself. You don’t just freaking hug strangers! Much less a lady older than you!! Most of the time because introducing your partner means WEDDING... So that's why the mom is super shocked, because she's thinking about marriage... Because of course is something new meeting your daughter's boyfriend whose also a foreigner (because every mixed relationship is a challenge, and mostly when this isn't something you're used to, it's not usual in asian countries) so ofc this mom is shocked, ofc at first she acts surprised and mad, and ofc after some time thinking carefully she changes her words. I think it's a good video that shows the true "face" of Korean people and how racist they are. Perhaps not all but at least 95% are racist. I speak confidently on the subject because I live here in Korea and I always see cases like this. Unfortunately, appearance and skin color are very, very important here in Korea. It's so sad that people are trying to understand this Korean mom with their own foreigner eyes. I'm not Korean, in fact I'm Mexican. But I know that introducing your loved one/romantic partner to your parents in Korea it's a BIG deal... I've heard that some people date for years before meeting each other's parents... Hopefully y'all gonna stop judging people with your own point of view knowing everyone is different. And no, I don't think this mom is racist... The girl wouldn't agree to do this prank if that was the case she would be afraid of her mom saying or doing something out of place/racist.

That was pretty rude to her cuz we don't act like that in a first encounter esp to elders. ofc this entire video is just a prank but if i were that mom, I would take his action as disrespctful behavior because it only represents that he never take this meeting or even the daugther serious. Both wife and husband have an obligation to understand each other's custom and culture especially for international family. Furthermore, In Korea and Japan, introducing their gf or bf to parents means that "we are in deep relationship and going to get married soon or later". What his behavior was like eating a snack during a pray. That is how we take serious for that moment, cuz it is a process of merging two diffent family.

Accepting the reality of nuance in how people feel is not to say racism isn't real or even ingrained in korean people. I also think this prank is messed up putting the guy at risk of encountering (possibly additional) trauma. Also, if people in the comments have no space for nuance then that could have been the case for him (seems like he is a very understanding person though). But it's unfair that people are judging the mum that harshly because even before the prank was revealed she was saying that she would support them but hated the lying. Especially after she had just talked about how proud she was that they were open with eachother, and that he deliberately did something rude to korean elders to shock her, the reaction made sense. Of course cultural differences can be overcome but of course the mother deserved a place to privately discuss with the apparent couple. When I was engaged to a bangla guy the parents were right - the cultural differences were huge. I was being careless in my youth. There is no guarantee that people can overcome cultural differences without great problems.

How is not exposing your relationship to somebody make them disrespectful? Parents and kids can be open with each other but if there’s something their kid doesn’t want to expose doesn’t make it rude of disrespectful. It’s honestly nobody else fucking business if they want you to know they’ll tell you and just because they keep one thing a secret doesn’t automatically make them a liar. I don’t think it’s hate. The fact the matter is as these facts spread out mankind today is deeply distraught because men that was to be cohesive are being more depressed because the probability they will find a mate and be happy goes down because of competition. So, i really think you should look pass color...and I think you did a little thing there of not taking responsibility by saying it's not your fault?? You chose how to react to it.... who's fault is it then, that mine?? Or wasn't MLK Jr. also an American like yourself?? You decisions are yours, and you should take responsibility for it. Thank you. And by the way, i appreciate your comment. Thanks once again.

I’ve always never felt accepted in Japanese schools as a blasian person. And the energy they bring when i walk by them is so uncomfortable. When i made friends and went to their house to play their parents would stare at me sometimes and made me super uncomfortable. Im homeschooled now and because of it now i got social anxiety 💀👍 I’m not surprised though, who wouldn’t if u get stared at wherever you go.

I'm so sorry you went through that. Nobody should feel invalidated because of the color of their skin or their heritage. I hope you're doing better now

a wasian would feel the same wya though. you wont ever be a native. this can never be. and so you will always be treated differently. you'd do better in america i'd expect. japan is very tribal.

what are even the purpose of these types of pranks? Especially when they always look so relieved and happy at the end...feels gross and backhanded to play this off like a harmless prank. Koreans be acting like black people are aliens or something smh why would it be so bad if she was dating him if they really loved each other?
@ALeaud2 жыл бұрын
It’s not good because Koreans and blacks are too genetically different. Almost no one wants to mix with blacks. I’m fine mixing with other non-whites. Blacks? Look at every country you’re in charge of….

THANK YOU! I don’t understand why this is even a prank to begin with. They act like we’re some weird, alien species that should miss with their ppl. And women of the ppl in the comments trying to say it’s not abt race are lying to themselves.

First mistake he did was not greeting the parents with respect, yeah diffrent culture but if u want to "marry" a woman/man from a diffrent culture and meet their parents u should atleast get to know basic ethics like can u hug, or can u shake hands on first meeting. thats on the producers for not telling him to not hug an korean mother on first meeting LUL. Secondly alot of asian tend to look weirdly on strangers like china/japan/korea no matter your skin color, if your not korean u wont be treated as a korean. I myself from europe wont bother who my daughter/son date but thats just how i grew up. For her its probably normal and for us its seen as racism.
