I can tell this is not the Demon Core, but it feels like it. As a note, it was not the core opening that killed Lewis Slaton but closing it. This is due to how the physics of plutonium and its interaction with the material (i think led) that both he and Harry K. Daghlian used for the experiment. Lewis also didn't get just himself killed due to radiation sickness. With the guards included, Lewis liked to have an audience when performing his experiments.
