I have been researching coral pathogens and in particular brown jelly disease with my university for the last two years. I cannot discuss my findings in depth yet but I will say this - avoid antibiotics. Pathogensis is a consequence of abiotic stress which then causes dysbiosis in the coral holobiont where once mutualistic bacterial species become opportunistic. Chase stability.

@salemclemens6148 I have rock solid parameters and also ICP test regularly. It is not brown jelly I am seeing but from the smell of the dying torch corals I get every month it sure does seem to be an infection. I have lost 4 torch corals randomly in the past 6 months. I am trying to pinpoint what is the trigger. Right now my theory is that it starts when I target feed the torch corals. Not sure if they are getting micro abrasions that is making them more vulnerable to infection or that they just do not want the food being provided and exert too much energy sliming off the debris thus opening up to infections. God help us all if this is some kind of new disease because so far it seems unstoppable and I feel like at this rate we won't be able to grow half the corals we do in a decade passing around these diseases like reef STD's.

I forgot another theory I have why it seems to have become more common other than reef STD's lol. I feel like a lot more people are carbon dosing nowadays myself included. My previous tank was not carbon dosed and I never witnessed receding flesh like this on torches. Reefing for 10 years now and the on other time I had a torch head die off was on 25g lagoon tank which was dosed nopox.

Aquabiomics did some preliminary experiments with cipro and actually found that it improved the microbiome, while reducing arcobacter significantly. So while you aren’t incorrect, cipro used in emergency situations only, seems to be effective and then add back good bacteria like Dr Tim’s eco balance.

Lately, there's been discussions of witch hazel as a possible preventative treatment. Did the aqua biomics say anything about that? Either way, I wish you all the best.
@HerbysReef3 жыл бұрын
I have not asked about that. I have used witch hazel before to help end some stn issues with my sps, but I have never noticed that it has helped with brown jelly. I also have tried dipping euphyllia with brown jelly in a witch hazel dip, and I have never saved them with it. I have only tried it one time though. I think it was a mix of witch hazel, melafix, and chemiclean.

@@HerbysReef 1 2 3 punch method nice. I think someone also said polyp lab medic which contains potassium chloride might be an option as well. There was a shared post making the rounds of FB a few months back.
@HerbysReef3 жыл бұрын
I have never tried that one. I do dip all new corals in potassium chloride, but that is for pests. Never tried it for brown jelly. I may need to add that to my list
