it has been said that the Rolling Stones lyrics is like reading a newspaper or history book, this is one example, but YES, very danceable and some of the best percussion ever! The controversy of the lyrics but the beat has aged well!

The Rolling Stones are gods! Arguably the best rock band on the planet! I was born in the 90's, but I listen to anyting my Mom, Dad, Aunts and Uncles listened to when they were kids, and I always will listen to the Stones as long as I live. My sister listens to all the crap they blare on the radio these days like Lady Gaga, Kesha, Justin Bieber, Jonas Brothers, and Miley Cyrus. UUUGGGGHHHH! If only some kids today were more open minded when it comes to bands like the Stones.

Excellent playlist ! I was 16 in 1969 and was at they're free concert at Altamont and the Hellss Angles were in charge. What day that was. I came in from behind the stage and was right up in front of stage. These guys can still put on great show 50 years later. If you've never seen them in concert, don't miss your last chance. 50 years ! THE BEST !

I remember listening to this song back in the 70s. I recorded my elder sister's LP record on my 7" tape-recorder. But over a decade ago I threw out all my 7" tapes as they "go bad", that is the magnetism on the tapes is passed on with time (not a problem with CDs). The Akai also got dumped. Fortunately, I now have KZbin when I want to listen to Rolling Stones' Brown Sugar!.

I can remember when I heard this song a long, long time ago....I had been with a friend at her house and she was pretty sad about her life and I was helping her through some tough moments. She left...and I was still at her house, and she had music playing...when, all of a sudden, I heard THIS song.......and there, in her living room, all alone, I cranked this song up full blast and danced my ASS off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome feeling. I left her house with a ton of GOOD vibes.

Recorded backing track and yes, LIVE vocals. Besides, bands couldnt set up all equipment and soundcheck etc. would be hours in between each performance...thus bring your backing track and sing it live. Think it was a union rule at BBC - could you imagine the BBC staff setting up amps, drums, gtr's etc and then getting sound desk EQ's ...nah! Wonderful live singing and performance from Mick. .... Then straight off to Villa Nellcote on French Riviera to create another masterpiece album; Exile on Main St. [those years from 1968 through 1975 IORR were truly their best. Thank you to Mick Taylor in a big way]

mauss1986 Why does everybody think every single song by the Stones is about drugs? I am not being sarcastic, just wondering. Mick Jagger, who wrote the lyrics, may have dabbled in drugs like most of the young musically talented occupants of planet earth in those days but for almost his entire career he has been a health nut. A junkie as a rule is not capable of "moves like Jagger". I don't get it.

Good points - Mitchell Spindell I mean ! I think Mick gave up most of his misogynist ways along with the drugs. That, I think was a combination of huge ego and his badass persona that made him filthy rich. How much was image and how much was Mick is hard to say I guess. I never met the guy. Seems like a hell of a nice guy to me, all of the Stones do. It's like they still can't figure out what they did right !

I've been listening to this tune for a long long time, and I don't think there has ever been any other recording in History that has created as much long term controversy as this one has. People have been bodaciously fighting over this song's lyrics for well over 40 years now, hell it didn't take Moses that long to find the promised land. Here's to the next 40 years, I'm sure it will be just as interesting, this one never seems to get old.

In my case, I was sixteen and had just gotten enamored with this powerful number when I went to a beach on the east coast of Korea with friends for overnight camping. One morning at dawn, the guys next door blasted this song from a portable boom box and started dancing to it. The ocean and the smell of summer morning, wayward youths and blaring Brown Sugar. It was some experience.

The Beatles wrote circa 300 songs in only 8 years and revolutionized contemporary music...we tend to take this monumentous achievement for granted...in over 40 years the Stones have produced maybe 40 great songs but to find a mediocre Beatles song you really have to look hard...it is true that the Stone's good songs have more emotional impact and raw energy.

Heck, don't let these people bother you, bro. Lessee: Greatest rhythm section in rock history. Greatest rhythm guitarist in rock history. Greatest frontman in rock history. Greatest riffs in rock history. Greatest balls-out rock in rock history. We could go on and on and on. The Stones are THE archetypal rock band: The model for how it's done. Say Keef live in 1979. He's way better than most people realize. But for The Beatles, The Stones ould be #1 and damned-near artery anyway.

I'm just so sad that nothing will ever be this great again. all the legends are in the past. nothing will ever be anywhere near as good (as far as music goes) anytime soon or ever again in my opinion. I've only been alive to see legends die. Michael Jackson, Kurt Cobain, and good music... At least classics will never die and the stones will keep on rolling!
@TalismanTImes12 жыл бұрын
Many of their hits are not in the 60's, but later. The entire Emotional Rescue album in fact topped both the US and UK charts in the 80's. I also seriously doubt that most teenagers don't know who the stones are. Their last tour "the Bigger Bang tour" performed during 2005 - 2007 grossed 560 M which totally shattered ever previous record of any other artist, dead or alive, in any genre, anywhere in the world (and still stands). That does not go unnoticed even by the most dizzy headed teenager.

Totally agree with you! Heck, I've been thinking Mick was the greatest front man ever back in the 1960s. Yeah, I've been around that long. IMO: The Rolling Stones (especially in this era here) had the greatest rhythm guitarist in the business, the greatest rhythm section in rock history and, in 1970 once The Beatles bagged it, really and truly were The Greatest Rock Band in the World. Even Led Zeppelin and The Who, great as they were, cannot really claim this title. The Stone could.

Definitely one of Rock 'n' Roll's all time greatest songs The lyrics make some folks cringe with embarrassment, others lash out in anger and a few find it mischievously amusing. To me it simply tells a story, probably part fact and part fiction, as all stories are. I really don't think the Stones were attempting to make profound social commentary here they were just writing a song, and a damn good one.
