+Robert Dunkes SR No he doesn't actually. Mick writes most of the lyrics and Keith writes the music. There's a few exceptions like Happy, Thru & Thru and he contributes to some of the lyrics but Mick is the one that wrote this as far as I know. I don't think Mick gets enough credit for his writing. He's easily one of the best lyricists in rock n' roll history. From 64-82, he kept a ridiculously high standard of writing songs. Arguably the longest time period of quality music from any band ever.

Yeah! St. Marks Bar and Grill in the East Village in NYC! I Moonlit here during the early 80s, when this was filmed there! Tiny Polish hangout Bar for all my regulars & visitors! I bartended there nightly, after my day job! Was always asked "Where's the pole Mick leaned on in the Video?" I started putting Bar napkins on the pole, when opening up the bar daily at 4pm "Mick leaned on this pole, for "Waiting on a Friend" 🧡 and I would always replace the napkins daily, after Fans took my napkins down! What great memories in my Hometown. Thank you guys! I'll never forget, neither will my friends, who would come at 10pm nightly, to be with me, when I got off the clock! ❤❤ Great days with the 1st Video Jukebox, in Manhattan right in front of me! COOL 😎

I remember watching this video for the very first time, back in 1981 on MTV! I was at my older sister's apartment . She had just got cable and MTV wasn’t even a year old yet! This video was one of the first music videos in heavy rotation and this song was all over the radio! I remember hearing Sonny Rollin’s smooth tenor saxophone, it was everything! It completely “blew” me away!! Along with Mick Jagger's hypnotic vocals and acoustic guitar cords!! 🎸 Keith Richards , Bill Wyman and Ronnie Woods's melodic guitar riffs along with the late Great Charlie Watts on drums!! Of course Nicky Hopkins was awesome on piano!! And rounding out the assemble of Amazing musicians on this classic track, was Michael Carabello on congas!! Great Song and Great Times! The Stones definitely “slew” this mellow rock opus!! 40 years later, this song has aged like a vintage cognac! Rock On, Stones!! 🤘

I was reading an article about Keith and Patti Richards. Funny, how some rock n roll guys can seem so tough, but when a person is in love truly they are tender. When Patti got sick Keith fell apart. A person never knows the full extent of what another means until they feel that loss in their hearts. I am glad it turned out good for them.

I remember one fall night in the early 80's in a little town called Brookfield Massachusetts where the Stones were rehearsing for their world tour. I.opened up the car door at about midnight (they rehearsed from midnight to 6am) and heard the Stones rehearsing " Brown Sugar" in the barn they rented on the compound they were staying. I'll never forget that night. One of the top ten most beautiful rock n roll ballads ever by the greatest Rock n Roll band in the world. RIP Charlie.

Oh, yeah ... C'mere and say that. The Allman Brothers are #1. Can you imagine if George had ever tried to keep up with Duane, Dickey or Warren on a guitar solo? Although there's no question Paul is the greatest bassist in music history. The Replacements are #2 and another outfit from the Twin Cities (one who never "made it") holds the #3 slot: the Lamont Cranston Band. This is the law.

As someone that grew up in this neighborhood, I love this video. It starts with Mick on the stoop of one of the two brownstones that are on Led Zep's "Physical Graffiti" album, and ends up at the St. Mark's bar. Love it. Keith also passes the International Bar, which is still there, and there is a brief shot of a Futura 2000 tag, one of the most famous graffiti writers in NYC history. This video tells so many stories.......

I am not a huge Stones fan (although I truly appreciate their talent) but I love this song. Always have. Something about this video takes me to a time when life was simpler and people met up in person and not via internet. Thank you for the insight into the places in the video. Very cool! And by the way, Physical Graffiti is one of my all time favorite albums.

"Waitin' for a friend" is an EXACT Example of that Originality...2 Chords'.....Wow!! This beautiful Rhythm-intro by Keith Richard's, being just those 2 Chords, carrie's the Whole excellent song and, thank Goodness, hard to forget...!! The 1st. chord having 5 strums and the 2nd. with 2. And you know it's from him, Keith, and you're better-off for it..!!

How conveniently they forget....Mick Taylor on lead guitar... "Recording of 'Waiting on a Friend' (as 'Waiting for a Friend') began in late 1972 through early 1973 in Kingston, Jamaica, during the Goats Head Soup sessions when the band still had Mick Taylor as a member. His guitar piece made it to the overdubbing sessions in April 1981 when the song was selected by Tattoo You producer Chris Kimsey as one the band could re-work for the album."

+Sullen Morbius Cool video for a cool song filmed at a cool location. Well it is now, back in the early eighties it was pretty hairy down in the LES. (That building, with Mick and Keith sitting on the stoop, on St. Mark's Place also appeared on Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti album cover). It's a one way street that runs smack (pardon the pun) into the middle of Tompkins Square Park, half a block away. At the time, that park was a notorious open air heroin market where kids overdosed on a daily basis and the gang wars starting as crack hit NYC. Can you imagine any band as big as the Stones shooting a video there? Just the Stones, staying on the cutting edge. It's probably the last place anyone would shoot a video for this type of song, but it's the perfect spot if you think about it. The lyrics describe them trying to make sense of their lives and find deeper meaning to it, in a world of booze, drugs and sex, which the East Village was a playground for. The grittiness and grimness of the place, which can't be fully captured on film, really does accentuate Taylor's soft guitar style and Rollin's smooth sax. The Stones are all about showing the beauty and the ugliness of the world and ourselves.

That building they are in front of is the same building that appears on the cover of Led Zep Kashmir album. Thought that was pretty cool.
