That is cool! I was running a CB whip on my metal shop roof and picked up quite a few contacts. I did cheat a little bit and pump about 750 watts into it at times!

LZ4VLD here, new ham. Super impressive you made it all the way from California. Call signs with odd numbers 1 3 5 are from the southern part and even numbers 2 4 6 from Northern parts. They are not indicative of any specific region just North and South. But most probably someone from the capital Sofia and a level 1 (2 is entry 1 is the top) because they get to use 2 letters in the call sign instead of 3, sort of like a vanity thing. 73.

Hello Vlad and thanks for commenting. I've worked Romania several times over the years although never the Transylvania region and though that would be fun just in time for Halloween. I have newer amateur radios, but decided to increase the challenge using old tube gear. Are you active on 10m ? I check the DX cluster every morning for Romania and see a few spots, mostly CW & FT-8, I'm still looking for a strong SSB contact. 73- de KI6IUJ

@s9radio I am on 2m 70cm. That is what my license allows (class 2). Might upgrade to class 1 someday. Long distance looks like so much fun. I know 6m and 10m is super popular. Great QSO, thank you for sharing.
