Rewatching this as an adult and I’m clocking Dr. Meridian saying “You look so sad…” at 2:39-I never considered before that he might feel sad looking at that doll because it reminds him of how he failed his friend, Harvey Dent.
@masterexploder9668 Жыл бұрын
He looks genuinely sad and haunted, Val Kilmer carries it really well. Movie is pretty mixed, which I think somewhat ruins Val as well. Keaton explained some time ago that he left due to Burton also leaving the project and the decision to go in a "lighter" direction. Plenty of Schumacher's deleted scenes do show that tone of the original cut wouldn't actually be that much different from previous entries, but higher ups wanted a "lighter" tone and more plastic to sell more toys, apparently. Perhaps Keaton saw the writings on the wall and decided to bail out.

I never noticed before how in playing Bruce Wayne Kilmer perfectly blended the ‘alpha male’ insouciance of the Brosnanian Bond with the ‘socially awkward dork’ who mumbles half-formed sentences and over-apologizes / gesticulates too much. It’s quite an underrated iteration of the character. He’s reduced to being a temporary fool because this woman honestly encapsulates him and reduces him to a stuttering mess, but _instantly_ he’s back on his feet, being suave and charming with zero embarrassment for his botched entrance and bad first impression mere seconds ago.

Val Kilmer never quite received the credit he deserved as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Bruce is complex; Kilmer portrays him well, as a man who doesn't know how to fit in with everyone else. He's hiding so much under the exterior yet he is choosing to constantly play it all off as if nothing's bothering him even though everything about his inner world is. Kilmer shows these subtleties quite well

She wouldn't need to work out if she was submersed or doused in water because Atlanteans would be the aquatic equivalent of Superman. In a lot of fiction, water is a major factor for both strength and healing to Atlanteans. Such as if they are out of the water for too long, they would dry up like a fish and would require water to rejuvenate them back to their full strength, and if they suffered grievous wounds and internal body damage, water would heal them as fast as Wolverine and Sabertooth's respective healing factors.

This whole scene was great on multiple levels! It shows Bruce's peak physical and mental prowess, breaking that 2-inch-thick door with barely a 10-feet of momentum, and doing it on his first attempt while maintaining a clean gentleman look! Kilmer did a Conroy voice with the perfect attitude! Rorschach reference and Dr. Meridian being only 1 step behind telling Bruce's real identity without even realizing it (yep, Bruce Wayne is a mask, Batman is his real identity)! This was brilliant!
