Mira's passing is one of those few where an actor reaching the end of their life cuts you to the heart. Delenn was a stellar character and her love story with Sheridan was so wonderful and tragic in its turns of fate. It hits me very hard personally as the development of the relationship between my wife and I had echoes of it, except that she was the one that dies young (cancer got her at 42), and I have sat watching the sun come up as Delenn did for John ... so every time I watch that particular episode I dissolve in tears as you can imagine.

Greatest story ever told on tv. Babylon 5 aired in Finland back when I was doing my apprenticeship in pharmacy, which was otherwise very cool place, but the owner was probably sick in the head, enjoyed punishing her workers for whatever reason, and it was getting really difficult to take, for me, but also for the others. Then one weekend evening I absolutely randomly bumped into Babylon 5 (must have been 1998-1999, as that was the time I was in the pharmacy), and I was little unsure of it first, but after 8 episodes I was sold. Season 1 went through latter part of my pharmacy time, and it was literally my beacon of hope, something to live for, to be dramatic. Now I´ve watched B5 nine times fully through. Best series imho.

The love for the show and his colleagues just radiates from this man. The brilliance of Babylon 5 was not just in the writing, but also in the absolutely perfect casting.

Individual episodes of Star Trek may rightly be considered the best TV sci-fi ever created, but when you take the sweep of Babylon 5 as a whole - nothing can beat it! Not even the mighty Trek!
@peter.24.73 жыл бұрын
I still remember that on first broadcast in Australia, B5 was put up against Deep Space 9. Being a trekkie, I was watching DS9 and flipping over in the ad breaks, out of curiosity. By the end of the first season of B5, it was the other way around, I was tuning into B5 and not really bothering with Trek. Oddly when I watch the DS9 story arc, I think they were actually poaching a lot of aspects of their show from Babylon 5. The religious significance, the war, the notion of destiny.
@Historian2123 жыл бұрын
@@peter.24.7 There have been lots of debates among fans about this. But JMS relates that the Trek producers saw his early treatment for B5, and then they created DS9. It's totally true.

Hearing Bruce tell about his time on the show with such warmth and love, it takes me back as well. I absolutely love Babylon 5. Along with 2001: A Space Odyssey, it was the most mindblowing thing I ever saw on TV as a kid. It was aired very late, around 11pm, so I had to tape it and during the next day in school all I could think of was for the day to end so I could go home and watch the new episode. I think I only missed one episode (can't remember which one) because of a schedule shift or a misprogrammed VCR timer and actually didn't see it until the DVDs came out. Also, in my country it began airing only in 1997 I think, but they went through all of the five seasons in about three years. I've since heard that some people ordered cassettes with home-taped episodes from overseas to seem them early. And some even had them before the TV airings. Knowing about and following the series was like being in a secret club. Also, Babylon 5 composer Christopher Franke is an ex-member of Tangerine Dream and his work on the show led me to discover their music which later had an enormous impact on my musical taste, got me interested in synthesizers and I began creating my own sonic landscapes, eventually becoming a musician and sound designer. So I can say for a fact that without Babylon 5 my life could be very different. Too bad the remasters are not available in my country yet and who knows if they ever will.

His dialogues with Kosh today still sound just amazing! Great show, great story, great acting! He said, he felt some realism in B5, and I think, changing the commander of the station turned out to be such realistic twist. Not something you usually get in a scy-fy series. I know, it wasn't JMS's plan, but it happened and only made the show better! Both commanders were complex and so "alive". Much respect from Russian fans, Bruce!

I always recommend B5 to everybody looking for something epic but overlooked. But I always tells them the same 2 things: 1. "B5 is Lord of the Rings in Space; 5 seasons, 5 movies and 1 spinoff." and 2. "You have to get through Season 1. It's 110% worth it, just do it."

I just started watching Babylon 5 in January this year, I'm now just onto the the last episode on Season 5 and it's been an absolute blast! It's crazy to think this has been out for around 30 years, well since it all began anyway and it's now getting a lot of attention, especially over the last year or so. The story and how it's told alongside the extremely detailed/fleshed out character arcs is something that shines so bright with Babylon 5, the characters are just fantastic and there's not really 1 or 2 characters you can say, "yeh those 2 are my favorite", because all of them are great and even more are introduced in later seasons. One thing that does make you feel quite sad is the fact so many of the Babylon 5 cast have now passed away, such a shame and I also find it sooooo strange watching the show and seeing them all as their younger versions and then when I google or check out some KZbin interviews with the cast you sort of forget it's 30 years on and so they're all over their 60s etc, that feels so weird as if you're jumping through a time machine watching them when they were in their young days, quite strange! Love the show and glad I found it even though it has been a long time since the show aired.

"Intersection in Real Time" was an awesome, if not Orwellian, episode where Bruce really brought a lot of dramatic flare and realism. Thank you Mr. Boxleitner for bringing so much to a character that became both a hero and role model for me in my young adulthood. I was dealing with a lot of isolation and personal depression during that time of my life, and the message and characters of Babylon 5 inspired me to find new meaning when every day was struggle to find meaning. Thank You! And for crying out loud, let's get B5 on the big screen! I've conceptualized an actual B5 movie in my head...I wish I had time to write it. "We won't start this fight, but, by God, we'll finish it." Words I live by!
