Lars spoke shit about Maiden and Steve Harris in the 90s when Maiden's popularity decreased hugely when Blaze Bayley was the singer. When Bruce joined Maiden again, he was asked by an interviewer why he returned and he said "To put Iron Maiden back as the number one metal band in the world". After hard work and constant great music, it's safe to say Bruce was right.

He did throughout the late 90's. He called Maiden as yesterday's news. When Bruce and Adrian returned, Maiden's ticket demand rose so high that festivals started to take Maiden instead of Metallica. Very nice cheat between two kind of (metal) monsters! I'm so glad to read so many positive and calm comments. Usually I read "Metallica sucks" by Iron's fans or "Iron sucks" by Metallica's fans, I'm old enough and I'm not a fanatic anymore, I and just enjoy 2 bands who have being influencing all metal since the 80s! Of course I have a preference as anyone, is rare to find someone who likes them 50/50, but it doesn't matter as long as we recognize and respect the importance of these two bands and these two frontmen. It's nice to see there are a lot of people who instead being harsh to one another (for God knows which reason), are able to state their opinions and bond!

The 2 of my favorite bands "Maiden" and "Metallica" coming together, how great this is!!! I had NO idea that James had lost BOTH of his parents at a young age, poor guy. And, Cliff has been the "guiding force" in Metallica when he had been alive. He had NOT been the oldest band member, BUT, he HAD been the most mature and 'sure of himself" guy, or so it seemed, so, HE had kinda been the "big brother" for the guys. Jason had gotten the worst of what COULD have been gotten. And, I really think that it is GREAT that James HAD gone from drinking his feelings into NUMBNESS, to actually revealing his pain and going and "crying into a corner" on film. IF he had NOT done that, he;d have to NUMB himself again, using some drug or some booze again. Any SO CALLED Metallica fan that can NOT "handle that" needs to just "get bent". I'd rather have a healthy James Hetfield in Metallica than a drugged up or boozed up James that is unhealthy. Ha ha ha, I had NO idea that James did tricks on a skateboard. I did know about his injury when the pyro had burned him onstage a good while ago. And, Axle Rose refused to go onstage early with "GNR" and so the people had gotten PISSED and had begun destroying the town stores and basically started a damn RIOT, all because AXL ROSE was a BIG JERKOFF. At least THAT is the story I had heard back then. James CAN REALLY SING, and so although he is NOT able to "belt out" like many singers have like Chris Cornell, and hey even BRUCE can, we all know that James vocals are GREAT with Metallica;s songs. The way that I see it, James has MATURED, and the guys that say that Metallica may have gone "TOO SOFT" are likely people who do NOT realize that James and the whole "FOOKIN" band have MATURED into MEN. And they have gained INTELLIGENCE by living life, and maybe those that THINK they have become WEAK, are really the ones who remain weak, and will NOT get the balls to face their own demons. JUST MY opinions here.

It's got to be, to some extent, painful to do interviews like this where James is asked about Cliff. I've seen so many interviews that include questions about Cliff, and how James feels about it. More than I could even estimate. But something frequently bothers me: Imagine that one of your best friends died. And every so often, for 33 fucking years, strangers coming up to you and asking you about that heartbreaking moment. It's no wonder it took him so long to get a handle on his grief, and become healthy again.
