Bruce Dickinson just made a statement about Iron Maiden’s line up… and it is exactly what the Iron Maiden fans needed to hear!
Despite most Iron Maiden fans referring to the post 2000 Maiden formation as the band’s new era, it’s 6-piece line up, introduced in 1999 with the return the vocalist Bruce Dickinson and the legendary guitarist Adrian Smith has actually become the longest running line up the band has ever had… by far!
And in a recent interview with Stereogum when asked about the secret of longevity of Iron Maiden’s current formation compared to their earlier line ups Bruce Dickinson had the best possible response, which completely shuts down of all of the fan conspiracy theories and online talks about Iron Maiden members actually hating on each other which have been going around for years now… somewhat proving that if Adrian and Bruce would not have left back 30 something years ago… most likely there simply would not be Iron Maiden right now… so let's discuss it!
00:00 - Intro
00:09 - The "new" era
01:17 - Myth buster
02:58 - Change in perception
05:05 - Until the end
07:15 - One more chapter

Wow, you actually scared me then 😂 Stroke is a serious thing as well, and what’s amazing with Nicko is that according to Bruce the stroke caused him to forget how to play drums! Still Nicko sat down and relearned how to be one of the worlds best drummers once again, and that is awesome 👏🏻 Respect ✊🏻🤘🏻

@@Thegamer10113 thanks for clearing that up, I didn’t know the extent of the stroke. But he managed to play and that is a huge feat in itself. A guy I knew suffered a stroke, before he was an incredible guitar player but afterwards he didn’t know how to play guitar at all. He had to relearn the art and became almost as good in the end, unfortunately he suffered an ever worse stroke and passed away. Sometimes strokes can erase certain memory banks, that’s why I thought Bruce’s statement made sense. 🤘🏻🇸🇪🤘🏻

They have certainly become even more of a unit. That they can still deliver with as much energy shows that when individuals come together as a band, supporting each other. Over the years they have worked damn hard to get to and remain at the level they are at. Being honest about learning and maturing over the years, when that transfers over on to fans, the positive influence that incurs, will ensure that Maiden’s positive influence will continue even longer than the band itself.

i had the good fortune of hanging out with Nicko and his wife a few times right when Blaze joined...when talking about Bruce leaving the band he said straight out (and i Quote).."Bruce thought he was bigger than the band, Steve knows HE isn't bigger than the band; and it's HIS damn band" Also, Nicko is as down to earth as it gets...we went to a club and he sat in to play with the house band, and even though he was about to play to a room full of 'nobody's', he still went though his forearm warmup with his roadie and he was even a slight bit 'nervous'....a sign of a guy who knows what his work means to even the most 'common' of people

I was 9 years old when I first discovered Iron Maiden. Between Number and Piece of Mind. I have been forever blown away by their technical abilities as musicians and their work ethic with regards to their longevity. As a band they have given us more than most bands will ever accomplish. If they were able to do another 10 years, or even two, they would more than satisfy a lifetime 10 times over. Iron Maiden's music will last a millennium or more...

The fact that the "classic" line up still together and Janick is great, he really does bring that little extra that band needed and the fact they do get along after all this time shows the strength and endurance of this band. Their latest albums at time has way too many long songs, they stick to their guns and I can find a passage in each song that just shines. Unlike many bands of their era, they are still going full force with the line up we all grew up and love. The play the new materials and they still do it well. Most bands of their era lives just on the classics. Maiden still plays 3-4 of the current album and that keeps it fresh. I am not one of those Maiden fans that only listens to the "classic" albums. I enjoy when they play the new stuff, in fact when I go see them I am more excited for the new stuff than the older material. The band is timeless and will be the 17th time I see them come this november. Up the F N irons always!

Have been a Maiden fan since 82. I think the constant album, tour, album, tour, pace in the early days that they set, wore themselves out. But it made Maiden who they are today! Now that they put out an album every so many years and tour at their own pace, they are appreciating it more, now. They know that they are closer to the end of the road than they are to the beginning. I noticed that their last few tours, they have been having more fun on stage. They deserve to have fun at this point in their careers. When the fun stops, it's time to go home! Hate to say it, but I feel so old at a Maiden show now. I will be 60 in June, and seeing all of the youngsters and the families, 2nd and even 3rd generations of fans that are now going to Maiden shows is a testament to the appeal of Iron Maiden. Doubt we will ever see another band that reaches the world wide appeal that Maiden has reached despite no support from mainstream media.. will be a sad day for me when Maiden calls it a career, since I still haven't found a newer band that hits me like Maiden has. Hopefully Maiden has a few years left in them, their shows are still phenomenal! Am not ready to let them go yet. lol

@dektrimusic with Nicko's illness, I think it's put it into perspective that they won't be able to do it much longer. Steve is obviously working with British Lion. Long lasting bands mirror the stages of human devleopment, in that things move faster and a year is more meaningful in your formative years. The difference between your 16 year old self and your 20 year old self was huge. Those 4 years we packed with changes. But the 4 years between 51 to 55 pass by in a flash, and little about your world view or attitudes change at all. So yes, Iron Maiden between 2000 and 2025 might be a lot of years, but none of them particularly transformative, it's just 25 more years of them being what they already were (which I don't mean as a negative, it's just how life works).

My only complaint about Iron Maiden is that there is no way a recording can capture the talent and sound that the live show has. Super super talented band and sounding phenomenal.

Been a fan since 82 when I saw them open for Judas Priest. Even though I love their albums, Maiden must be seen to fully appreciate them. Maiden is a LIVE band. Have a few friends that were so so on Maiden after listening to a Maiden album but when I talked them in to going to a Maiden show, they were hooked.

Saw them in 85 their "World Slavery Tour" by myself as a 17 year old girl and ended up meeting this Italian exchange student name Aldo and he bought me and him beers and hung out, Mom picked us up and we exchanged phone numbers and at the time I wasn't really into Italian guys so everytime he would call I'd tell my mom "tell Aldo I'm out with friends" after about a week he quit calling me, poor Aldo 🤷🏼‍♀️😂😂

Have loved Maiden intensely since I was 6 in 1986 and my uncle played The Number of the Beast song/album. Saw them for the first time in 1993, three months after my first Metallica concert and knew that metal would be my religion for the rest of my life. I just hope they (Maiden) listen to Judas Priest's latest album and put some fire back in their songs. I like the last couple of Maiden albums, but wish they were a little faster and less "atmospheric" for lack of better words. Anyways, up the irons and slava Ukraina, my man.

Maybe it's just the way Adrian doesn't move around much onstage, but, he and Janick never seem to have the same camaraderie that both of them do individually with Dave. I'm not implying they don't get on. I'm just saying their relationship _appears_ to be more professional than friendly. Dave has been in the band for all the major eras and perhaps he's part of the glue that binds this lineup of the band together as a unit.

You might be reading far too much into their onstage movements. To be fair I know who I'd rather go for a beer with and that's janick. Adrian's contribution to Maiden's success should never be underestimated and he's a superb player. However, personality wise he comes across a bit morose.

@@michaeldean7220 I'd rather chat with Adrian than Janick. Morose? I think you might be overanalysing it wrongly. 😂 Adrian is a quiet introvert, always been. I'd talk music with him over a couple of beers.

This IS the "classic era" of Iron Maiden. Probably the only band to have their "classic era" as the entire latter "half" of their career. Maybe the songs aren't all quite as awesome but i think that's the novelty effect as much as anything. Most fans think of whatever they heard first as their favorite regardless of the era or album...i think they have realized what they made in time to really cherish and curate their legacy as they mature as people and as a team and to honor their fans and each other. If only bands like Pink Floyd etc could've managed their own lives and relationships like these guys have. It's painful to watch sometimes. I've seen enough to know they are a team and a family and I've heard from folks (well, one guy) who has worked "inside" their organization that described it as a "family."

There will never be bigger heavy metal band than Iron Maiden. For example, next big one (but not near to them), Metallica needed to have metal to exist (just look at the name). But Iron Maiden made metal what it is. Yes, there was something of metal before them, but they made it what it is. So, we will take everything more they give us. Fan since 1986 from Bosnia. Up the Irons!

@@mrpositronia Us true fans can hear who's playing. It is very distinctive style on each. Having listened to them since the 70s, you notice the details. Here's a Easter nut for you to follow. On recordings (which is also the position on stage that they have live), follows the audio spectrum like this on bands: Left Center Right Dave Murray Janick Gers Adrian Smith KK Downing Glenn Tipton Richie Faulkner Glenn Tipton (Andy Sneap when playing live) Malcolm Young Angus Young Check out your records, the above is how they are placed in the mix, always!

Sometimes when Angus is soloing, he's mixed between Center and Right channel to even stuff out a bit. Same with JP. On JP dual solo, harmony playing is sometimes placed in the middle. Fun facts.

@@rabarebra oh I know who's on what side. But the mix for Maiden is always mushy, from Brave New World onwards. So, being born in 1976, and only hearing Maiden for the first time when I heard Run to the Hills at 6 years old doesn't qualify me as a 'true fan'. Noted.
