Best metal drummer ever, bar none. He got a raw deal for sure, between being fired for questionable reasons right as Maiden were breaking big, to contracting a super-aggressive strain of MS. Even now in my mid 50’s, I still get amped up when I listen to those first three albums, and it’s mainly his drumming that does it to me. He was truly awesome. RIP

He definitely seems a good deal more soft-spoken and shy here from any of the other interviews I’ve seen him in. I don’t know the exact date when this originally aired, but I’m guessing he had just joined Maiden, fresh out of Samson. Nothing is mentioned here about Number Of The Beast. I wonder if they had begun recording it yet?

And yet the vast majority of Maiden fans *STILL* don’t know the real story behind that. I still hear and read all the time from people how they think Clive was fired for booze/drugs overindulgence. It’s very sad to me that over 40 years later people are still buying into that crap. It’s disrespectful to Clive’s memory and the air needs to at last be cleared once and for all. Clive was an amazing drummer and a seemingly really nice bloke. I have nothing against Nicko, and he’s also an amazing drummer (but Clive was better), but it should have been Clive on all those big successful 80’s albums and tours. He was fired just as they were starting to get huge. Most unfortunate timing possible. He was robbed, and subsequently so were we.

@@m42037 Actually I think it was. I don’t remember if it was something that I read, or an interview I saw online, or something else… but I seem to recall Bruce mentioning “differences with a certain other band member” factoring into his leaving the band. I wish I could specifically remember where I learned that, but these days I’m lucky if I remember to have all my clothes on when I leave the house. I do remember learning somewhere that there was friction between Bruce and Steve.

Watch the interview with Clive and Bruce big mouth. Bruce said himself he didn't like the way the Clive thing went down. You people that disrespect the late Clive probably weren't even born back then, just groupie type wanna bes. Clive never missed a beat or his timing I'm 58 and was around then and I been playing drums since the mid 80s. NEVER had I heard Clive Fk up live, and I've heard boots and Number live and killer's live never did he even make a mistake!!

You say “stop spreading lies” as if you’re such an authority on this particular subject that one could be led to believe that you were actually in the room when Clive was fired… except that I’m guessing that you probably weren’t even born yet, much less physically present to witness it. I guess I’d just like to know what makes you such an authority on this matter? Like I said, you command to “stop spreading lies” as if your word is the final word on all this. I’m of the same opinion as the person who left the last response. Were you even born yet when Clive was sacked? I’m guessing you probably weren’t.

He certainly was a fantastic drummer, unfortunately do to greed and no ethics Steve asked him to walk away just because the man wanted time away when his father died. Clive was also very humble like Randy Rhoads sad
@Shikta-poobah67
@Shikta-poobah67 9 ай бұрын
I can certainly see a few similarities between the two. Namely the fact that both were cut off right at a time when they were just beginning to taste sweet success. Obviously it was for two completely different reasons, but both were equally tragic in their own way. From all accounts they were both quiet, humble guys who possessed a massive surplus of talent with their chosen instruments. Unfortunately Clive hasn’t been as revered as Randy has been, but the evidence is in the recordings he made. Clive was easily one of the top 3 greatest metal drummers of all time, along with Ian Paice (Clive’s #1 hero) and Bonham.
