I think a lot of people don't want to come to terms with the fact that Bruce Lee was a HUMAN BEING like ALL OF US , A man who was way ahead of his time in many aspects in life , and he accomplished so much in such a short time. Bruce was no saint, and he admitted it during one of his recorded interviews... To be real and clean is very very hard to do.. Especially today, from the average joe, to people who are popular and on high platforms are practicing so much fakeness and hypocrisies like we have never seen before .. I've been a Bruce Lee appreciator since 73/74 when it all kicked off at the time of the Kung fu boom as they called it shortly after. I've read virtually everything there is to read on Bruce Lee ever since, and it did sound from all accounts like a pretty wild few months that. But when viewing the Anna Capri footage of Bruce casually stretching and chatting to other members of the cast, he looks perfectly normal, healthy, happy, and relaxed.

Great comment. Re: the Capri footage: The importance of portraying a certain image publicly versus what is actually going inside are often at odds with each other. Bruce’s private and public behavior, at least what we are aware of, did not demonstrate someone who is at ease. Taking a few clips of him when he knows he’s on camera as evidence that he was totally chill during this time may not be the most accurate yardstick.

Please correct me if I misquote. It's been interesting to hear people who knew him talk about him. Jerry Poteet was still moved to tears years later while talking about hearing of Bruce's passing. Sifu Jerry deacribed him as tireless in his pursuits. James Coburn's description of Bruce was that he demanded excellence of himself. Chuck Norris said when he and Bruce were supposed to be taking a tea break, Bruce got on the floor and started doing crunches. May we all find our drives and pursue them with balance. This breakdown of the timeline of Bruce's death is incredibly revealing. . He was under immense stress and on top of it he he was physically falling apart with his drug use and the injuries. A few of my friends sent me the link to this podcast because my name is mentioned. Because I'm up against a writing deadline, I unfortunately don't have time to watch the entire podcast. That said, I was directed to one place (it may be the only place) where I am quoted as saying the reason Bruce didn't show up for the initial shooting of ETD was because he was frail looking [I paraphrase], which is incorrect. To clarify, in my book "Unsettled Matters" there is an entire chapter devoted to ETD in which I state that the reason Bruce was hesitant to start filming was because he stuttered. This is the reason he didn't like Michael Allin's script (I talked about this with Michael) and why he wanted specific lines of his dialog changed. Jesse Glover talked about Bruce's stuttering in his (Glover's) book. I have personal experience of this because, like Bruce, I was also capable of stuttering when under pressure. Like Bruce, I stuttered as a child. Interestingly, I found myself in the same situation as Bruce when I was cast for a role in "The Carey Treatment" (I didn't want to part, but the producer insisted. I was hired onto the film as Jim Coburn's stand-in, double). I was terrified on the first day of shooting that I might stutter, even though my close friends Blake Edwards was directing, and Jim Coburn was starring. As the shoot turned out, my nervousness worked to my advantage. When I watched dallies the next morning at MGM, several people in the room stated how natural I played the role, to which I replied, "That wasn't acting!" Your time permitting, I'd appreciate your directing me to places in your podcasts where I'm mentioned, so that I can weigh in if I've been misquoted or perhaps can add substance. Of course nobody can say for sure why he didnt show up to the filming of ETD in the beginning, my guess would be maybe it was cocaine related. Maybe he took too many coke in late '72 and early '73, and he needed time to get it out of his system. Cocaine leads to twitches and other things, and most probably people would notice something is wrong, and would maybe ask him uncomfortable questions.

It's important to note that Tom Bleecker was also one of Ed Parker's black belts in the mid-60s. He knew Bruce and trained with him briefly.

You should probably watch part two where I address this. At the JKD school in Los Angeles they had a log sheet where everyone wrote their name in to keep attendance for each class. Mr. Bleecker went to one class of JKD on a night where Bruce Lee wasn’t there and the class was taught by Dan Inosanto. There is no reference to Bleecker in Bruce’s daytimers, or any contemporary records of them training together. This claim must be taken with a grain of salt and not given immediate credence because someone said it.

No worries, it nothing to do with you what you said per se, it’s just that on any video where I discuss this stuff I get a bunch of Bleecker stuff which is such a mixed bag of fact, assertion, and things that are just made up. But his book gave a counter narrative to the official story and as many people generally tend to be somewhat anti-establishment, everything that Bleecker says gets a free pass unchecked. And then I get people telling me these things as if I didn’t read that book nearly 30 years ago already. The Internet gives us the ability to push back and ask for evidence on claims and that’s all I’m doing with his stuff.

I heard that Ang Lee’s upcoming biopic on Bruce focuses on this general time period of his life, before during and after the ETD shoot. I hope Ang Lee includes some of your discussion points in his movie. Like you I’m still a huge BL fan, and it doesn’t bother me in the least that he was a human being with human frailties. I just hate cheap shots (like the Tarantino movie).

Have you heard the theory that Sing Hoi (Star Sea) was a front company for the 14K triad and that Bruce made enemies with them by suing them? And that the marquee written at his funeral “A STAR sinks into a SEA of art” was a covert way of Sing Hoi saying “We got him!” It’s probably just silly but I’d like your thoughts. It is silly, but let’s go with it: First off: It sounds like a convenient “ I have a narrative, now let me find “facts and data” to support my preconceived hypothesis”. This is literally the opposite of the scientific method and the opposite of how any solid detective work functions. Murder because of a public lawsuit? Does anyone even know how the triads function? It’s not by advertising their work. So the triads who murdered Bruce Lee decided what Chinese banners to put at his funeral? How does this work? “A star sinks into the sea of art” is a not uncommon phrase for famous persons funeral. But it makes a sexy conspiracy theory. LOL How did the triads kill him without leaving any traces in the autopsy? Magic triad poison that’s undetectable? MAGIC! If one wants to mine coincidences out of a sea of nonsense to support this conspiracy theory, I could give you about 14 more facts and coincidences than what you have. Oh wait, 14… is that like 14K? 14 reasons, subtract the number of films Bruce Lee did in Hong Kong could be five, and that leaves you nine, nine as in nine dragons, nine dragon pond is where he lived, Lee Harvey Oswald owned nine hats, ergo Raymond Chow sent the 14K to kill Bruce Lee with nine hats. It makes so much sense. Chieh Yuan died at 32 in a house that had 14 salt shakers. Coincidence? I think not. His death is weird but unrelated. It makes sense sheeple! Hope you enjoyed that.

The twitch under the eye when filming started Bruce not being on set. That does seem to be true. The American producer Fred weintraub, in his own words said in interview. Bruce was overcome with nerves, and had twitch under the eye. So they filmed without him the supporting cast 2nd unit.

Before Bruce made it famous he had to deal with challenges for fights but after he made it he had to deal with the big boys and they work a little differently. He couldn’t just knock them out and it’s over but they work secretively. Of course I know nothing because I wasn’t there but I’m glad I wasn’t. All I know is that Bruce was as tough as they come and didn’t play the humble act and he went straight to the top in a business run by giant egos with tremendous power. Swelling or edema of any body part is caused by an electrolyte imbalance. Bruce was on several drugs over training and drinking too much water. His cocaine addiction probably injured his kidneys and they weren't able to keep his electrolyte salts in balance. Renal failure and brain edema is a common complication of cocaine OD. The blood vessels constrict and kill the renal tubules. He probably was very low on potassium and magnesium and was in renal failure. electrolyte balance is key to life. "Be like water" is ironic considering water balance killed him. The other drugs given to him due to his headache did no help the situation.

What about hyponatremia (low sodium) from adrenal insufficiency? Bruce was reportedly taking cortisone injections in LA for his back, and that Dr didn't travel with him to Hong Kong I believe.

@@benjaminbritt7862 it's renal (kidney) injury not adrenal insufficiency, The adrenals glands and kidneys are different organs and play different roles in electrolyte balance and blood pressure. When the kidneys aren't regulating electrolytes properly your tissues can swell. Cocaine OD is known to cause acute renal injury and brain swelling. known symptoms of cocaine abuse. Unfortunately I don't think they did a proper toxicology report on illicit drugs during his autopsy.

"Bruce was showing all the symptoms of adrenal crisis". Let's put it this way: If Dr. Michael Hunter from the 2017 show "Autopsy - The Last Hour of..." didnt lie or made something up, this statement is true. When I saw this episode, for the first time I felt satysfied. My uncle worked professionally over 40 years as [male] nurse and has good medical knowledge, and I asked him then: "Is it possibly someone who uses cortisone injections over a wingspan of 1-3 years could die because of a cerebral edema?", he said without thinking: "Yes. In 1973 the side-effects of cortisone werent known like today." And to make the difference: Bleecker always speaks about Bruce using steroids for being more masculine, like he was such a wimp without them and not a real man. Hunter isnt on that side! He showed Bruce's medical files in the documentary, and he pointed out that back injury was NOT a sacral nerve but a "slipped disc". If Bruce really suffered a slipped disc in August 1970, then it would make 100% sense he used cortisone for the rest of his life. My mother worked like my uncle as a pro nurse for years, but then she suffered a slipped disc when she was in her early 30, and it was the end of her career as nurse. She worked from that day on in an other job (also in medical department) but without physical work. But back in 2017, I didnt know about the cocaine use. And being a professional cycling fan since 1997 when my German fellow countryman Jan Ullrich won the Tour de France, I know one of his main rivals, Italian Marco Pantani, died at the age of 34 in early 2004 on cerebral edema because of a cocaine overdose. Bruce and Marco had exactly the same height (5'7.5" or 172cm) and a very similar body weight, and both were athletes on pro level (Bruce trained like a pro athlete). Since cycling isnt so liked in the USA etc., Pantani was the only guy who was able to give a prime Lance Armstrong (won the Tour de France 1999-2005) trouble in the high mountains in the Tour 2000. That's my point abotu all of it. Cocaine is to me the nr. 1 reason today, but if Dr Hunter didnt make things up like the slipped disc or the cortisone injections, then adrenal crysis makes sense too. One symptom of adrenal crysis is actually that the skin tone changes redish or brownish, and we saw that on Bruce in ETD and his final days. Linda always said he was much in the sun, but he didnt look like that in Los Angeles where the sun is always shining. Changing skin color isnt a side-effect of cocaine as far as I know. But i dont know.

Looking forward to seeing this segment. His passing was so sudden and seemed mysterious to so many people. May 10th, 1973, Bruce had a seizure, passed out. Then 2 months later he was gone. I believe he passed away due to Heat stroke. He had his sweat glands removed, and that may have contributed to his death.

I don't get the drugs issue at all. Yip Man was a drug, smoking opium, addict. Nowadays everybody knows that ufc fighters like jon Jones or conor mcgregor do and did drugs, Mike Tyson still does them and we are talking about 70s... Even Arnold Schwarzenegger was smoking weed back then along with US president. So what's the deal?

@@TheKungFuGenius Well, Bruce was in show business, he was introduced to drugs by Coburn, Steve McQueen, Polanski did drugs. Bruce’s father smoked opium, Yip Man ( Bruce’s teacher) smoked opium. Plus these were 70s "flower power" years where people had different attitude towards using drugs. Not to mention in one letter Bruce said he was about to stop since it doesn't go along with the philosophy of jkd as using the C puts limits to him.
