this is one of the best interviews I have ever seen, and also one of the best talk show formats, no plugging just conversation, in this case very funny conversation. brilliant

I remember Bruce Robinson as Brian Lovell in Still Crazy and he was brilliant. I didn't realise he had written Withnail and I. Superb talent, acting and writing.

Yes, another one here saying thanks for posting. Have just read "The Peculiar Memories of...", so an interesting insight. If you're a fan of BR and haven't read it, go and get a copy!

Bruce also wrote a fantastic book on the Ripper. 'They all Love Jack'. Read it... Wish he'd write one on the Madeleine McCann case - similar themes involving a massive cover up.

Oi. Is Bruce tucking into a beer ? Thought it was solely red wine. Or was that a becks blue.

I kind of wish this was just an interview with Bruce. I'm not sure if Radio Caroline founder Ian Ross or theatre director Joanna Bowen really add anything to it.

Horrifyingly insensitive to Mr. Robinson. So awfully rude and sickening.

Sorry it's been a year since I've watched this-and even longer since I saw it go out-so I couldn't remember the exact timeline in relation to Penman (which is indeed a great book) or indeed that he was 'plugging' it here. I do believe and stand by the notion RW broke the on/off record rule though. Let's remember this wasn't just a chat show, its MO was several hours chatting and dining as if socially, with some parts being filmed and others not. That she actually lied when he asked was wrong.

Wow not only does he have to suffer being beat for ten years as a kid , they try and tar him with the same brush.The worst is they are quite aware he isn't like that , but think they are being entertaining by asking edgy , candid questions.My very personal experience is , having experienced terrible treatment, it is literally alien to think of inflicting it on others.Id put my life savings on it being the last thing Bruce Robinson would do.

Bruce did'nt know he was on air hence...'were not running are we?' etc best of the century chin chin..
@gman847113 жыл бұрын
Come on, this was just Ruby Wax's schtick back then, being rude and brash to guests. Bruce was probably aware of what she was like and he doesn't let it faze him, he stays calm the whole time. And that "we're not running are we?" has to be a joke, there's no way he could be that gullible (what else they would be sitting on that stage for?)

I'd have to check Smoking In Bed but I do seem to recall his issue was in feeling he'd revealed things that he thought was off record. Certainly the 'sponge or stone'/Uncle Monty inspiration tale relating to filming R+J, now well known, was not at the time and I think he's on record as saying he'd have kept it secret, but was tricked.

Bruce is great but Ruby Wax is cruel and nasty. The Peculiar Memoirs of Thomas Pelham is well worth reading for sure. Withnail and I probably one of the best comedies ever written. He also wrote the screenplay for The Killing Fields and made a guest appearance in 'Still Crazy' as Brian. One of the most realistic movies of a band on the road and the music wasn't bad at all.

My father hated Ruby Wax, I understand why now. Utter trash 'interviewing' a genius, Ruby, the door is over there feel free to use it, Bruce, carry on...
@markxist12 жыл бұрын
Yes but there's a difference in giving up the information to the wider public isn't there? It's far nicer to do it of your own violation as opposed to being conned into it. Bruce hadn't wrote Penman at this stage, I don't think, so this may have been the first time he'd spoke of it - and unwittingly too. It's well known he wasn't happy about being lied too, and refused any contact with Ruby afterwards
