Bruce's infamous performance of "57 Channels" on SNL in 1992. This goes down as one of the most bizarre Springsteen performances! Sorry for the lack of video, all I have is the audio.

It totally sucks that the video could not be shown. I watched this on SNL live in 1992 and it was awesome.

Much of the fan base seemed to hate this but I thought it was perfect for the moment, and a great way to loosen himself & the band up for a drop dead gorgeous performance of Liviung Proof.

This is good stuff. You can hear a Daniel Lanois/The Edge type of styling in the atmosphere of the guitar sound and vocals.

Not sure why this is being described as "infamous", this is the only version of this song that truly makes sense. LOVE it!!!!!

The irony of playing this on a TV show has only just hit me 30 years later

I was thinking at the time that he was getting a little stuck in a rut, but this performance put that notion to rest. Tunnel of Love is my favorite middle-later period Bruce album. Till Western Stars came out!

Wonder why it is impossible to find the video for "57 Channels" anywhere on the internet. Would be cool to see it again.

@@DMVawter Yeah, I found Living Proof and Lucky Town, but not 57 Channels. And I'm not going to subscribe to Peacock just so I can see that performance.

Its actually a very good performance, and I'm not just saying that cause I'm a big Bruce fan. The problem with the performance was timing. He had just dumped the E Street Band and this was his first departure and it was TOO different. It sounded like it was trying too hard, even though when you hear it now it doesn't seem that way. It just sounds like the effect he was going for. But back then, it felt too radical and its why it was so bizarre. It seemed like Bruce had lost it, but the truth is if he hadn't dumped the E Street Band and he did this performance with them, it would have been received a lot better. It was all the different elements that made it seem insane, when actually its a pretty cool statement and the overdoing it actually works in favor of the track IMO.

Living proof right after 57 channels straightened it out.

I think he did Lucky Town on the same show and it was great. Anyone got a link to that?

This has to be a tip of the hat to Tom Waits. I Love Bruce, and I loveTom, so I'm not getting my underwear tangled up. It's great!

I remember watching this live on SNL, and thinking it was awesome. My Boss fan friend did not like it!

I'm just gonna assume he's using the "¡Three Amigos!" definition. Nothing else makes any sense.

Springsteen is a hardcore, stingy capitalist. Come on, Bruce, this video is 30 years old, and you still threaten lawsuits if KZbinrs show the SNL video? Damn.
