35 years ago this album came out. The year I got my driver's license . The year of my first car. The year of my first love. The year of my first Bruce concert. Needless to say Bruce is the only one still in my life. Lol. Every now and then I'll throw this CD in the player while washing the car in the driveway. Open a cold beer and just listen as the years melt away.

I was eight years old when my father bought the album 'Born in the USA' back in '84. It has this song on it. I remember it resonated deeply with me, i.e. with my ability to feel, for I didn't speak English back then. (I'm from The Netherlands). When I got older I learnt the language, and so I learnt the lyrics of this and many other Springsteen songs. I could now more and more understand what he was singing. And also through life experience of my own. But the truth is, I could grasp the meaning of many of his songs as a child. For the match is perfect. Springsteen has a gift for giving an emotional charge to music, that captures very well the essence of what he sings about.

I was 16. Went to the show at RFK in DC. Hearing these songs and thinking of that time makes me both happy and sad. BITUSA was my first Bruce album and show. Other albums i like more but like my first love this one is very special.

Or at the very least a certain understanding/recognition between the two of them . I just saw the band live 3 days ago and this song was the 3rd one of the first encore . I was watching Bruce and Stevie for some sign but alas , it was not to be . What a fantastic concert though ! I’ve been a fan since they broke out on the scene 49 years ago and this was the first time I got to see them live ! Something I’ve always wanted to do and now I have ! ! ! Keep on kicking it in the ass Bruce ! ( and the E Street Band ) . 3 hours and 5 minutes long of nonstop jammin’ ! 29 songs , most of my favorites and one with my name in the first line ! Thanks to my daughter I got to see it !

My wife has given me so many wonderful gifts, but the only one better than her love was tickets to this concert. My first Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band concert. It only took 30 years to get there an a whole lotta love. Now I'm the one getting the tickets and taking her to Hyde Park next July for the experience of a lifetime. Besides falling in love and being loved, the next best thing is a Bruce Springsteen concert.

I ADORE this song, and have asked my family to play it at my funeral. It speaks to those in our past, never forgotten, and although no longer seen, there are those times when we remember the connection, even with all the miles in between. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song. First time I heard it I was driving on highway 5 coming home to San Francisco from Los Angeles. Stopped and called my sister (on the payphone, no cells yet) to ask if she knew the song. Just blew me away.

Possibly Bruce's most underrated song. About Steve's departure from the band in 1982. Although it could also be about an old high school sweetheart you had. Music can have multiple meanings. This song is regularly played at Springsteen shows and he cites it as a favorite in his book "Songs."

I’ve never seen Bruce but have “grown up” with him for the last 50 years . I wanted to try to see them in Nov. of ‘23 but Bruce became ill and had to cancel those shows , so I didn’t try to get tickets . By sheer coincidence , my daughter and her husband got 2 sets , only needed one , and I bought the other tickets from them . He is supposed to come back in Aug. ‘24 and I’m waiting anxiously ! I’ve seen most of the truly great rock and roll bands that I wanted to but never got to see Bruce . I hope we both make it till then ! It’ll be wild , the wildest thing I’ve ever seen ! Updated 9/16/24 - I did get to see the greatest concert ever on 9/13/24 ! Bobby Jean was the 3rd song in the 1st encore ! It’s rumored to be about Bruce’s best friend Steven Van Zant , it reminds me of my best friend Vic Mori who I lost almost 26 years ago . Yeah , it’s very painful but also beautiful at the same time . R.I.P. Vic , I still miss the hell out of you Bro 😎 ! We had some great times together and were truly soulmates of the friend variety . I only wish he knew just how much I truly did love him .

I love so many Bruce Springsteen songs. However, Bobby Jean is the one that will always mean the most to me. Reminds me of someone who I really miss. Been lucky enough to hear this live and I have never not been able to cry.

My first concert with the boss and the e street band was the first concert they ever had in Norway in Dramenshallen in 81 and I went there with a feeling that i was going to be good but I have never been blown away like this before ,and i am still blown away almost 40 years later and and some concerts later , keep on and make people all around the world love music

My mom first played this song for me when I was 14 (in 2012), and I fell in love with it. I had a friend the following year and we were absolutely inseparable. We did everything together. We had a falling out a few years later and now we only speak once in a blue moon. I hope he is doing well.

Don’t let that go ! One day you won’t be able to make it right again . Fix it now while you still can ! Tell them you’re sorry and take it from there , you’ll thank me later , even though you don’t know who I am !

The song is about Lil Steven leaving the E St Band in the 80's. It works on so many levels though!
