Really?? It's horrible, contrived and so cliche in every way, uninspired and totally commercial. Eighth grade and this song was out. The best girl in my school asked me to write out the lyrics for her. I told her to write them out herself because I hated my handwriting, she insisted that I do it, I again told her to forget it. Next day she told me again so I did. She took them glanced over it and folded it nicely and put it away. My low self esteem didn't let me realize that she only wanted those words written out by me, not that she actually needed to learn the lyrics. 😅

It’s one of those songs that gets appropriated by people who never listen to the lyrics. They hear the big sound on the line ‘born in the USA’ and don’t hear the verses describing how most USians are kept in catch-22 traps of poverty and injustice. It’s a diatribe against the USA… or at least against its unfettered capitalism and laisez faire government. I used to confuse Springsteen with Jimmy Barnes of Cold Chisel in Australia. Born In the USA shares a lot of DNA with Working Class Man by Barnes/Chisel
