I both love and hate this song. Such a painfully obvious attempt to try and ride the disco trend, but Ace just makes this so good. He's not the most technical player, but he just has style and swagger. I mean, who else had rigged their guitars to start smoking while they were ripping out a solo on stage while dressed in some cheesy 70s space man outfit? And while he can't sing for shit anymore, Paul had a great voice, and the guitar harmonies he and Ace put together on this one really hit good, especially right before the solo at the end. Yeah, it's cheesy, no, I don't listen to Kiss much anymore, and this is pretty low on the list, but there was a time I played this one a lot. Totally get the love and hate for this onr.

It's kind of a revolutionary song for 1979. Desmond Child actually wrote it (or something like it) and disco was huge at the time. He wanted to write something that would be popular in clubs, but add a little R&B and Hard Rock to it. Paul Stanley used to hang out with him and they wrote this together. Gene Simmons famously hated it, but Kiss released it to capitalize on the era, touching on the dance background, but keeping it hard rock. It became the #1 song in 23 countries within a few weeks. Gene had no complaints after that and Kiss just kept getting bigger and bigger. Desmond Child too for that matter. His career exploded after this! As soon as this was a hit, he worked with Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Cher, Alice Cooper, Joan Jett, Scorpions (many times over etc... and all the biggest hits). The guy was and still is a genius song writer & and in the songwriters hall of fame.

From the point of a 7th-8th grader, when it was first released, this was the song you wanted to dance to at the school dance! This was a serious skating rink song! What I mean is... if you look at it from the perspective of when it was released, it was gold. Cheesy gold. 😊

You should do Strutter. Track 1 off Album 1, where it all starts, encapsulates the KISS sound perfectly and has a great groove, Gene's bassline really drives the song.

This is the song - then lp - that made me the fan i am today. Seen them a few times and loved it. They had some really good songs on that lp. Whenever i hear one in the radio - it goes full blast

Ryan and my man George keeping it real once again. Great analysis and honest reactions like this comes when you're a free thinker and I salute you guys! This song has been a stable in my life for over 40 years. Weddings, birthday parties, graduation parties, new years eve, my kids confirmation parties... Doesn't matter, we always we gotta rock out and do the do do do do....to I Was Made like it's 1979 again
