I was in the Army stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. It was September of 1978 and I had just left Seattle bound for Germany. My flight had a stop in Denver and then on to Newark to spend a few weeks at my Uncle Tom and Aunt Dot’s home, before going to Germany. The flight from Seattle to Denver was unremarkable. When people started boarding the plane in Denver two guys asked me to move so they could sit together. I took the other guys seat a few rows back. So, I’m sitting next to this guy and there is a girl sitting next to him, and he’s hitting on her slowly from Denver to Newark. At one point he must’ve asked her where she works, so she says in Washington Township, and he says, so now that I know I’ll have to stop by and see you sometime. I leaned over and said my uncle and aunt live in Washington Township on Webster Avenue. She says that’s just around the block from where I live. She asks him to switch seats so she can talk to me. We talked the rest of the way to Newark. As we were descending, I said I have to get a taxi to Washington Township so you can ride with me. She says my mom is picking me up - you can ride with me. She dropped me off at my uncle and aunt’s home. I said nice meeting you hope to see you again. The next morning, she rang the doorbell and said would you like to come to the park with me and my friends and throw some frisbee. We spent the next two weeks together. The second week her parents left for Vashon Island in Washington State to visit her grandmother. One day she comes over and says, my brother has an extra ticket to a show at the Capital Theater in Passaic, would you like to come with us. I said of course. It was September 19th or, 20th, 1978, and the show was Bruce Springsteen. What a show!! I left for Germany a few days later, on September 23rd.

What is interesting today is that he really didn't get much press in the 70's. He had the 1 big single, but when Rolling Stone did an article on him in a fashion of the must see live show a lot were like, who? You have to understand that the 70's were a mix of all types of music from funk, progressive rock, southern rock, hard rock, R and R, R and B, Jazz, and even some bubble gum pop.
